Supersaw patch possible with AL-1 ?

Post by menz »

Hi there,

I've been using a Kronos 88 for about a year now and I am really loving it for live playing and some homestudio work.

I've recently discovered my iPad for VA synths and fell in love with the Supersaw oscillator of Sunrizer. I had a JP8000 a couple of years ago and immediately felt "home" again. I quickly created a Supersaw patch on Sunrizer and converted it to a Kronos HD-1 program: Soundcloud MP3 Demo.

I've tried a bit to replicate something similar using AL-1 and layers of different patches in combi mode but without much success.

Is sampling the only way to go here ?

Cheers,

Markus

P.S. This is my first post - so hello everybody :)

Have a play with the double saws and unison, that will get you a bit of the way there.

I think the double saw is detunable actually, or otherwise there is a detuned double saw also? It's never going to sound exact but according to Roland the Supersaw is seven detuned saws so with dual AL1s with two oscillators each, each doing a pair of detuned saws you should at least be able to get a similar sounding effect.

Something you might like.
Check out the download section here at KORG FORUMS for the Superwave P8 VSTi converted to KRONOS format.

Plenty Supersaw sounds in there.

Regards
Sharp.

Yeah you can change the phase and volume of the second saw, unison then thickens it up a bit

Why not just using the iPad via USB1/2 and writing a combi?
Now that I got an used iPad2 everything works fine with midi and audio via USB. (You also can use Aturias iMini or even two iPads :) as additional tone generators.)

I have just sampled some basic iMini waveforms and think that samples are really great with this instrument. Only the UI stands a bit in your way to be honest. ;)

Cheat and peek into the AL-1 settings for trance saw type sounds you like. There are some settings which sound very very good. Just steal 'em!

Even just playing with unison and spread with a single sawtooth gets some very convincing results! The problem is that working with unison that way eats up polyphony rather quickly...

Can you play ipad instruments via USB MIDI from the Kronos using an Apple USB camera kit?

Yep and route the audio back into the Kronos, very neat.

I am using an iRig midi interface instead of the camera connection kit to hook the iPad up to the Kronos. In doing so, the iPad is powered / charged while playing.
