Who can help me??????

Post by mus1cpro »

Help!!! I have keyboard Korg Pa3x and programmed about 200 styles and stored them into factory settings and not in fav/user settings. I upgraded my keyboard to the latest version and lost years of work of the most amazing programs. How can I retrieve them??????

Hi,

you know that if you don't have made any backup of your previous data all your work is lost. No question.

Remember to keep always copies of your data, even ... check what the documentation that Korg release suggested you before doing the factory restore ...

Sorry for the bad news

Cheers

" like the King of Rock n Roll, like a drive-in picture show, like last week's pay, like next month's rent, like a sad old song on a record made of wax . . . she ain't ever coming back." (Mark Collie)

Seriously, I'm sorry it happened to you. If it's any consolation at all, it is making me back up my stuff again! Thanks for sharing; it will help some of us, but not you.

I too feel sympathy for his loss. As someone who might soon make the same mistake I ask if over-writing factory data is normal practice? (disregarding the failure to back-up).

I do it quite often, but the manual and the update instructions are very specific about update overwriting everything. I don't generally overwrite factory styles, but I do save User styles to factory locations.

There are plenty of User or Favorite locations to save modified factory styles, so why over-write? Also, I occasionally like to go back to the factory style, after I have made a lot of changes just to get more ideas, and to compare my finished work. You can't do that if you have over-written.

If you modify factory styles/sounds then they will always be overwritten with factory & OS updates.

If you like to use the factory banks then regularly back them up by backing up resources as well as backing up your USER data.

So there are 2 steps for safe backup - resources (BKP file) and SET (.SET folder)

The only way to retrieve them back is an older BKP backup , no other chance and sorry for that !
Though you could have saved only modified styles after unlocking protection !
I frequently advice that all of you who modify factory resources , that it's critical to save your work in
Full Resources Backup !

Therefore in that case , when Upgrading OS , 3 essential steps are required :
1) Media/Full Resources Back Up
2) Upgrading OS procedure as described in downloaded PDF directions
3) Media/Full Resources restore

And you'll be at the exact state of your modified factory resources but with newer OS.
If you want to gain important new OS resources , then explore and save them manually in user banks
as a Res.SET after Upgrading and then load your BKP file !

Antony,

Thanks for that simple 3 step process - not that clearly stated in the manual.

Just remember to read the release notes - in the previous PA models some OS updates made significant changes to factory styles & sounds, so restoring a previously backed up "BKP" resources may leave you with problems or missing out on changes.
We don't know what Korg will do in future updates so please keep this in mind.

There is a massive amount of "non-factory" space for styles - I would always recommend using that first in preference to changing factory data.
At worst, add your new/editied styles to Favorites/User, save to disk and then go ahead and copy them to the factory styles - then, after an OS update you will safely have all your custom styles/sounds in a SET for individual recovery if needed.

However, that said, any changes you make in the "factory" areas are definitely worth backing up as described above.

Another important thing as complement to my above post.
Upgrading to OS 1.62 and then loading any older BKP file , two things will never happen :
1) Newly created sound or style positions by OS will not be overridden !
2) Upgraded OS 1.62 (or any) and fixes will be untouched , since BKF file contains no OS data (since was created).
