can you make a step set?

Post by nihil »

hello there, maybe it's a basic question but... is there a way to go from one step to another within a pattern? kind of create a pattern set within a pattern?
i'm trying to keep each song in just one pattern, and not create a lot of them to play one song, like in a pattern set.
sorry if it sounds confusing, thanks for the help.

You can't do it live. You can however use the 'move data' to select the bit(s) of the pattern you want to repeat- move it to the start of the pattern- cut it down by shortening the pattern length, then saving it to another pattern and place it on your pattern set.

thanks for the answers robosardine and x-trade.
no, i don't want song mode, what i want to do when playing live, instead of pass from one pattern to another (like in pattern set), go from one step to another within a pattern in the way that i want it to, without playing them automatically in a sequenced way: e.g. pattern A01, step 1-1-1-1-2-2-3-3-3-3-3-3-4, instead of 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8..., keeping the variations of a pattern inside it, and not on another pattern.
but i think i'm going to have to do it through a pattern set.

A bit like when you play a time slice loop with the step keys?

I don't think it's possible on the machine. Maybe if you resample your pattern to a time slice. That would quickly use a lot of memory though.

Would be pretty awesome though.

not possible as far as I know other than manually stepping back or forward with shift + </> but timing that right is near impossible. Perhaps there would be a way to do it via an external sequencer with NRPN but I doubt it.

I think it's meant to turn out a bit like the 'active step' function on the Monotribe & Volcas where you are repeatedly playing your pattern as you twiddle etc - then all of a sudden part of it repeats in isolation for a short while before either returning to the pattern/ moving on to another bit repeating in isolation or changing pattern.
