Kaossilator 2 "UNDO" function?

Post by omarsoriano.0 »

Hi, I was checking the manual of the kaoss.2 and it says you can partially erase previously-recorded phrases by holding down the loop botton and then pressing del button in some fragment or in the whole phrase. But its silly because its the same instruction to partially erase all of what you have recorded. So in my case it apply it to all of my recorded phrases, in other words.

Is it because my kaoss2 is not working well or does anyone have the same problem?

hope someone could help me,

cus honestly i find it very useful to have an undo function.

greetings¡¡¡

i seriously just signed up to this forum to echo your request. i'm still using the original kaossilator for a lot of stuff simply because of the undo feature actually. it really sucks getting an awesome loop going, and the you go to add something simple like a one shot percussion hit or something but your timing is just a little bit off, or your finger slips, etc. which botches the whole loop.

still fun though, and having two loops to work with helps mitigate the inconvenience somewhat, but id still rather have an undo.

totally agree...

yeah, its super necessary to have an undo function..
Maybe Korg designers are very aware of this limitation and they are waiting for everyone to complain in order to launch the next kaossilator 3, which do have undo, and which they have already done, but the want to make it seems as if they "improved" the thing.. but they only want our money jajaj :-p
(maybe joke, but im pretty sure the corporations do that)

anyway,,, will be super cool to find a hack to make this undo.redo button

and I agree.. sometimes technical limitations make you push further your creativity.. im still happy with this thing :-)

The undo function is probably the most requested feature on the kaossilator 2 but I think I can guess why this doesn't exist on the unit.

In order to implement undo, there would have to be a 150% increase in the amount of RAM on the unit. This is presumably a significant cost since the memory would not be usable for anything else (like extending the loop range to 16 bars which is probably the other most requested feature).

The memory required to implement 16 bars by the way is basically double and if you wanted to have both undo and 16 bars that would be triple the current memory.

At this point in the technology, I would be very surprised if the next models in this category shared this limitation since the memory prices even at high sample rates have been coming down for low power computers like this.

For a bit more technical discussion, all of the above is rough estimation and guessing, and it may also be incorrect. Because the unit has micro SD card support, it's possible that undo could be achieved by writing to the SD card the last loop state (the one to which the undo button would take you) . Owners will note that the KO2 does not write to the SD card while sound is playing so such a solution may require a re-imagining of the software or it may be beyond the hardware in some other respect. The fact that the unit misbehaves on low battery suggests that it runs very close to its maximum capability when it is making sound.

The huge amount of interesting innovation happening in low end computers like the Raspberry Pi makes me think we should expect some exciting devices in the near future. Somebody could actually make a DIY kaoss pad / kaossilator using a Raspberry Pi and a small touch screen.

The other possibility is everything will just go into smartphone/tablet software.

I also think that tablet apps are a good option for this kind of things.
So it seems that the Kaoss1 is better, at least in this topic.
Hope Korg could improve it next time.
