Styles in Set folders...BULLSHIT NEEDS TO END!!!!
Hi All
I am quite irritated with the nonsense on Set folders etc where styles cannot be auditioned directly off usb etc.
Korg just don't give a S@#t about user opnion in this regard.
I have lots of styles etc that I am now converting with Style works (Klaus responded finally after a retry with mails) and here is the problem.
Once you create a set folder of styles and load same into PA3x (probably same for all other PAs) and whilst selecting styles to audition, the entire arranger section freezes where only the last selected style is available to play. All the styles are there and even choosing a factory style jumps the screen back to the loaded style page and that last same style selected. Meaning you cannot choose anything else without restarting the PA. This has happened many times in the past when tried with various other sets... even korg sets....bloody frustrating.
I know that a lot of you would say that this is not a Korg problem.....IT is , as they continue to put all users through the bullshit task of handling these set folders etc.
The locking/restricting of functionality (like styles etc in sets) and secrecy of crucial Midi Data etc must stop. Other brands offer what korg is holding back and they or NOT "closing down" as a matter of fact they have more market share and gaining.
They will not even give reasoning to their madness... this is madness!!!
Please people, we need to all say something as some prominent posters on this forum always say (basically)... If people in numbers don't support concerns and requests, it falls on deaf ears and nothing (not even a little) is achieved in that regard as Korg believes the majority is HAPPY and content.
Its only the level of editing that's keeping me with Korg.....truly irritated with various other little issues raised by myself and many others over the years but this is just on another level.
Please encourage members from the other PA models to add their opinions here.
Thank you

The functionality you want would require a complete rewrite of the OS ... I'm pretty sure Korg has taken the current approach (styles must be loaded into ram memory for playback) for reasons of speed as well as protecting their proprietary code. Yamaha's approach is a bit simpler where styles are basically midi files, but I think that simplicity comes at a price in terms of editing.
I agree, it would be great to be able to audit styles directly off the media, or even a PC/MAC style player/editor would be awesome. EMC seems to be the only 3rd party that has attempted this so far.

Hi Thoraldus
Thank you for feedback but my issue with this is that from a styles perspective, its only EMC trying to resolve conversions etc and is not working well with freezes etc... so we basically cannot do much with our other styles that we created on previous kbds....
Korg styles too a basically midi.
Also apart from the other issues.
Thanks

The good news is that Korg's current synths CAN read stuff directly from a stick (the Kronos even reads samples directly from SSD)... So, when Korg finally abandon the current arranger hardware architecture (it's really based around the old original Triton architecture) and move on to a new 'engine', it will probably be able to do this.
But Thoraldus is basically correct... what you want cannot be achieved without an underlying change in the hardware of the PA series. It isn't really a case of a simple (hah!) rewrite of the OS, there are hardware issues involved as well.
We are about due for a new PA4x (possibly some time this year), so this will be an excellent time to find out whether Korg has moved to more modern current gen hardware and capabilities, or remain mired in still older generation hardware.

Where is your Ketron coming from? I just check all the major sellers in the USA and not one of them are carrying Ketron now.DonM wrote:It is my number one gripe with the Korg OS. And a reason I have a Ketron SD7 being shipped to me as we speak.
It's an archaic system and makes it unnecessarily cumbersome to audition styles.
I've never had the freezing problem though.

Try audioworksct.com Ask for Frank and tell him I referred you. He will have the best price available anywhere and wonderful service as well. If you were closer to me I could get you one, but Frank will be a better option for you.Thoraldus wrote:Where is your Ketron coming from? He should have a couple in stock by Monday, if he doesn't already. They shipped from the distributor in Delaware to him earlier today.

Absolutely true and very easy for KorgPa "leftover" OS developers to accomplish that !!!Veren wrote:I do not think its a hardware limitation to achieve this.

Hi,
yes in my old pa1x there was a floppy disk direct function, so I cannot believe it was taken out somewhere sometimes, but that's it. Hope to have it soon back since if it was possible with a floppy cannot understand why is not done with a USB that's also faster and with greater storage capacity. Other competitors are doing this, so there are absolutely no excuses for me.
I said also in several other threads how archaich it is this bank handling, and hope also this system ending soon. I had (between pa1x and pa3x) a tyros and have to say that the single file handling it's one of the very few thing still missing. It was so easy that pratically the tyros does not has a media mode that's overcomplicated in the korgs.
Don't know if this need to rewrite everything, but it's seriously time to change page here, since time are changing ...
Cheers.
