Using the Step Sequencer

I cannot seem to engage the step-sequencer. If someone can tell me what I am doing wrong it would be much appreciated.
Here is what I am doing.
• I select a Program (in this case User B-052)
• I select EG1
• I select the OSC/Pitch
• I set AMS for OSC 1 and 2 Pitch Modulation to the Common Step Sequencer
• I give both and Intensity of 30
• I go to the Step Sequencer and select some various note values (in this case 00, 20,40,60,80)
• I set the End Step to 6[/list]
There is no effect. What am I missing?

Aren't you editing Step Seq of AL-1?
In that case it's necessary to edit Common Step Seq.
