??? Defunct ???
in general terms means closed, or stopped...not functioning anymore

There are question marks you will notice so I am unsure of it's exact status, .....I quit the project some time back...as I suspect you already know ;) Nedim - I am quite confident you are still in communication with RS

Well here it is for those that are interested, the finished DAW portable PC...

I call it the Budget Rack Audio Transportable or B.R.A.T. for short!

The only differences from the now defunct (I believe???) OSL project is it is not a standard rack size (although it IS compact) and it does not have the ostentatious and over the top "blingy" front panel, and no multiple audio outs -
I figured if want multiple audio tracking I can simply add my own USB 2 (or Firewire with a suitably equipped mobo) Audio Interface when and if needed, rather than have to pay for one in built that I might not even like!!

Plus it has a DEDICATED GPU card, and not the onboard graphics of the original OSL project unit.

So the total cost of the system, including software was a tad under $700...

The physical aspects are : 395mm (15.5") x 265mm (10.5") x 200mm (8") 2.5 kgs.
I will modify some old rack ear extension mounts I have to fit it into a 19" rack case. It will take 4RU approx.

It has an ASUS USB 3, SATA 3 MOBO, AMD triple core 3.6gig processor, 8 gig ram, 1TB 7200 rpm sata 3 HDD, nVidia 1gig graphics, M-Audio 2496 PCI Audio -with ASIO
Monitor is an LG 1710 17" touch screen. http://www.lg.com/hk/it-product/images/ ... -large.jpg

That’s one heck of a tidy PC Dennis.
There seems to be much more room inside than the Shuttle PC Cases.

lol... Love the B.R.A.T title.

Regards
James.

Thanks James.

Yes it is really roomy, and there are even spaces for two more 80mm fans, and another HDD as well!!

Open Studio Live update.

Sadly, we failed to raise investor funding to get it into production. Two prototypes with custom cases and PCB's were built and demonstrated at numerous investor meetings that I won't bore you with.

Miden helped considerably on the software config.

There were lots of frustrations along the way with software and utilities not communicating under Windows 7 in the way they should, but those were "fixable" given sufficient cash to fund the developments. At the end of the day and after spending close to 50,000 Euros on the design and first PCB's, I have had to call a halt.

It might be cheaper for me to buy an INTEGRA-7 than to become a manufacturer :-)

I am interested in those who currently own the Groove XR like myself. If you are a owner please PM me. I wish to network our collective experiences so that we can help one another.

This way we can know:
What are you using it for? What issues are you having or have had? What software are you using? What things to avoid doing...etc.

A little communication can save a world of heartache. Please PM me (1.) your names (contact info) and (2.) if it would be OK for me to let other Groove XR users to know who you are. Thanks!
