I don't think the folks at Korg are crazy. They don't invest the time and effort into a product unless they see some potential. They do make mistakes like any other business. Failure is a part of business.
I have my own online business and belong to various seller FB groups. We are always sharing how customers pay insane high prices for stuff. For example, I sold a two book set for $350 last week. This was not a 100 yr old collectible, either.
To sell and get high prices is common here in the US. I am frugal so I am constantly surprised what people pay for stuff.

If I could get them for 49$ each I would buy some from time to time only to play around with them even if I do not really need them or use them in a productive way.
I think a large part of the music industry subsists on the purchases by hobbyists and amateurs. Since the prices of the sounds contain no material costs and the sounds could be distributed for no costs this pricing policy is hard to understand.

Reading all this makes me feel that I was not alone thinking the price tags of Kronos sounds are quite high.
I have often considered to get the one or the other extension. But when I compare all this to my NI-Komplete and some of the instruments that I purchased for NI-Kontakt additionally, I had the impression to get more for the money this way.
I love to jam with the Kronos all day and playing life ... but if it goes to recording in a DAW I find it much more convenient to draw on my plug-in library rather than to fiddle around with the Kronos in the DAW environment.
So when I needed some good strings, an orchestra, some brass etc. I extended my plug-in sound libraries rather than the Kronos.

Extremely expensive. But the positive point is : Dan is alive even if he refuse to answer emails and listen users suggestions or complains !
I would like to have more interventions talking about unsolved bugs, new improvements at OS level, etc.

The first roadblock to me is the idea they are tied to the machine. That is just such a problematic part of this I can't imagine ever putting much money in that direction. THE KRS 04, 05 made sense to me at < $50, but a more substantial investment seems dangerous.
When the Kronos Extreme (or whatever) shows up in a couple years and is compatible with everything I have done with this machine, I don't want to think buying the new one means losing hundreds of dollars in sounds locked to my current Kronos.

Did anybody ever calculated the total of Gb of free sounds/samples on the Clavia web site+ stock Nord synth compared with what comes with a stock Kronos? Not sure the Clavia customer is on the winning side... Just sayin'. I have both lost money, made money and broke even but in this case it isn't so much that I will lose it but that I can spend similar amounts of money for something that will be of much more value, soft synths, for a much longer period of time.
I really like what I hear of legendary strings but for the $250 I would rather build up my soft synths.
