Yes, the limited ranges were intentional. My personal preference, having worked with the more expensive string/orchestral libraries like VSL, EWQL, etc. is that the instruments only should play within their natural range--they are all that way.

In retrospect, I could have set the multisamples to play the entire range of the keyboard but limited the range within the program, that way an individual could easily edit the range to their liking. I can still do that if people have a strong desire, but these particular samples seem to lose their realism pretty quickly when played outside of the range.

BTW, when you were referring to Epic Strings for the Motif is that the library from Digital Sound Factory? Don't see anything at K-Sounds.

First thanks for all of you who responded to my and other dilemma about muted tones and missing octaves. Specially thanks for burningbusch for his explanation. I will like to use Sonatina-Strings, but I have a big problem with converting them from ver. 1.5/1.6 to ver. 2.0. Reason for this is, that all my banks are full (I can't load it and save it in ver. 2.x) . I have one HD-1 bank with pretty much space but this is in ver. 2.0. Please can someone be so kind to convert Sonatina-Strings to ver.2.0 and upload archive to some free server (this will make me very happy, and I am shure many Kronos users with same problem like mine) .
Thanks for all your attention!

I'm not sure I understand the problem. It's been a while since I used them but I'm pretty sure I loaded them into 2.0 (with userbank streaming). Where is it going wrong for you? Have you checked if the file is perhaps corrupt?

Thanks SanderXpander,
for your reply. I was offline two days, and my excuse for waiting for my answer. I checked pcg ver. in pcgtools and it showed me that is the ver. 1.5/1.6 (sonatina.pcg file) . I tried to paste sonatina instruments in hd file which is made in v.2.0, and because of incompatibility (in ver.) pcgtools denied to paste them. I can't load sonatina in default library, and I don't have empty user hd library to load sonatina set directly (on kronos). Only way for me is to combine sonatina instruments with instruments from other hd set.
If you have link for sonatina v.2.0 please send to me.
Thanks for your attention.

I asked this question a few years ago,.... but I didn't really see a direct conversation about it. So I'll try again. How does this Sonata Strings library compare to the Legendary Strings library produced by Korg. (it takes up significantly less space)... I have the Legendary Strings, but I just want to see what the community thinks.

Thanks.

Also, why is the burning busch one so much smaller than the one from Sharp (that's on the download section of the site)

I know he removed the round robin, etc... but I'm wondering why it went from 650 MB down to 80ish...

I checked again version of Sonatina_Strings.pcg file and it is in ver. 1.5/1.6.
Please, SanderXpander if you be so kind to upload Sonatina_Strings in ver. 2.x. Thanks for all.

I haven't tried any of them but I believe it's smaller because busch's version only have strings and not brass, woodwinds, etc.

Have you tried not using PCGTools but simply opening the PCG on your K and loading the bank you need to the location of your choice? That's what I always do. I have never tried it using PCGTools.

I would call the Korg collection better, but the Sonatina ones have a different flavor and may be worth having around.
