My first Kronos mod - second 320 GB HDD and silencing fan

Hello, lately, on 20.9.2015 I've got a used Kronos 61 for 1700$. OS 3.0.3. It had an audible fan and just 14 GB of free space. So I took a screwdriver and made this mod. I've succesfully added a second drive, not SSD, but ordinary laptop HDD. And to my surprise, it's speed is enough for sampling and it adds a very little noise. I took apart fan and oiled it, and hooked onto rubber sticks.

Not gonna lie, I'm surprised the mechanical HDD worked. I thought the Kronos could only use a solid state drive.

Unfortunately none of your links open for me.

I think putting a HDD inside the KRONOS is a bad idea. It's probably OK for basic storage, but I can't imagine the KRONOS being stable if you start streaming Samples / EXs libraries from it.

KORG will be using a buffer of a set size to allow the seamless switching from RAM to SSD access when streaming. Using a standard HDD will likely mean that buffer will run out soon as you start playing many notes. What happens then? Crash? Break in sound?

Some HDD's also spin down on their own if your not using them. Which could be a problem if you suddenly switch to a PROG sound that uses streaming.

Sorry, this sounds like a bad idea to me.

Regards
Sharp.

Ok, I'll update links later. They open just fine from Moscow.

But I do not use HDD for streaming. Just to render sequencer songs, store own samples/etc. Yesterday tried to record audiotrack and it worked fine. As far as I know the longest and streaming sample is the piano. So I use SSD for streaming needs, and HDD for storage needs. Normal and typical PC usage of these two types of media.

The point is, this 2'5 hdd was a free spare drive, from a broken laptop,
i did not pay a penny for it. May be later I'll buy 128 Gb SSD, but compared to 320 GB capacity and price it is not inspiring me much).
