I believe that with a hard case a UPS and proper care these are as good and reliable as any keyboards around. They are essentially computers with a keybed and need to be treated as such.
Thank you for your reply, you have my vote. The K's never been moved, dripped on or otherwise abused. I use a battery backup as well. I was an Electronic Technician for 15 years then Desktop Analyst to Network Engineer for a large internet company, so I get it. Since 1999 I've owned and upgraded Tritons, M3's and the Kronos as well as Korg D16XD recorders up until this problem with no issues. My problem is I don't have the available space, time or diagnostic equipment to really disassemble and test, though I do have the service manual (which lacks troubleshooting or tests for this type of error) or I'd have gone further than checking connections, swapping memory and reinstalling software etc. I personally have bought new ram, a new motherboard, SSD drive (ones successfully used by others here), and a new power supply (good luck getting those from manufacturer!) Nada, zilch, should be easy......it ain't!!!

I'm seriously thinking of buying a Kronos 2 61 because it's familiar and evolved further from the original with the cooling holes and the OS changes, but besides that I'm not sure that I'm not going to run into trouble again.

In any case it has to be financed, since my income is severely curtailed ... I'm taking care of an elderly parent which precludes me from working full time (I sell on Ebay and Amazon at a 75% reduced salary). So, I can't afford to be let down.

Kronos 2 owners what do you say so far?

Thanks for your input I really appreciate it.

It sounds to me like you may not have contacted your national Korg Distributor, which from your profile would be Korg USA. I'd strongly suggest that you do so; they should be able to help you get up and running again.
Hi Dan, called them Thursday, talked to Mike, he said he'd call them that day (I was a little stressed so he might have been trying to get rid of me), but he's yet to call, according to the service center. Service center is presently trying to source a KLM-3002 mainboard, but the part number in the service manual is discontinued. They sent a request for a cross reference number thinking with the new K2 the part number changed. This was close to 2 weeks ago , but with no reply. So we're giving it till Friday, then I'll pick it up and go from there.

Good luck but yea, I would be sending it straight to korg. I do fix electronics for a living nut after a full day with other people equipment I have no desire to work on my own, a lot of the time.

Thanks, know what you mean, I remember when I was in the thick of electronics, everyone had something to repair. They didn't realize that schematics certainly help a lot!!javascript:emoticon('')

Korg reliability

Post by JPROBERTLA »

I forgot to mention (in this thread) that I started with an M1 and subsequently owned an O1W/fd 61, Trinity 61, Triton88, Triton Studio88 and the two Kronos (K61 and K2-88). No problems with any of the Korg boards in almost 30 years. Besides a DX7 (which I only had for about 3 years) and a couple of 88 note controllers I used to control the Korg 61s, that's all I have used since workstations were introduced. It is also worth mentioning that the the Yamaha PF85 and Kurzweil PC88 both gave me a lot of keybed problems. No keybed or any other problems with any of the Korgs!

Excellent, my first Korg was a Poly 800, no problem with that one as well as the others except for the M3 touch screen. Owned nothing but Korg and plan to stick with them even through this trial and tribulation!
