Kronos a new beginning

As some of you know from the past the Kronos was my first hardware synth ever. several of you warned me how deep and daunting learning would be. Happily ignorant I plodded on. I have since choose to learn the beast much deeper then I have in the past so I am beginning with the quick start again. And low and behold only just beginning i earn that the switches 1 and 2 are not just toggles but can also function as momentary switches working only while pressed. I am happy to learn something new so quick but now I wonder how you guys may or may not be using this feature? Please chime in if you use it live or in the studio as a momentary switch. Thanks

Using SW1&2 as momentary switch can be useful:
- in case you want them to "trigger" something and don't need to keep them on once the event has been triggered.
- in case you need to trigger FX ou modulation in real time. For exemple, Lo-Fi effect on your sound for one or two measures.
In the latter case, you keep on pushing your switch until you want the FX to be heard.

I haven't used it at all honestly but Nord has found a cool way to do something similar with the NL4. Part of the power I suppose is in the way you make the modulation assignments (very quick and intuitive on the Nord) but it can still be cool to set up a bunch of modulations on a switch and flick it almost like a vibrato.

Thanks All! I was wondering if I was the only one not using it, hell I can't believe I missed it! I will start looking of ruses though, a good way to broaden my knowledge I hope. So much I still have no clue about, just loading items is still a pain.

I use that feature for woodwind trills. Press it for a quick semitone pitch shift.

Ah, hadn't thought of that! I have never dug into the foot pedals either but couldn't you do the same thing with a momentary pedal? I have a couple roland pedals, FS5u and an FS6 I used with a looper, I should work on integrating them as well. Thanks!
It seems in ignoring these two functions alone, buttons as momentary and foot pedals, I have missed out on some interesting and flexible possibilities!

Funny something else I have never used was the compare button, I knew it was there just never used it.
Mike, I recently picked up the Roli rise which is part of my refocus on the manuals. Incredible controller for the Kornos but a bit involved to set up with multi in something approximating its 5D control. Now the button for trills is a great idea and I imagine I could more easily do some of the nuances like the 5d with these two buttons a bit easier in many cases within combos.
Now onto stage to the OG this won't go as fast, these books are huge! I have been popping around as needs arise but I think now i have learned enough to attempt a read through beginning to end. Goals to lear programming in the engines more fully. Also to see if there are any uses to running an audio out back to an in. I haven't tried it but it does make me wonder, so far my limited AMS usage has gotten me along. With the eternal routings there may be no need for actually routing an audio out back in.

Trills are fun but you could do those with the playing hand too. The way Nord uses it is similar to a trill, but instead if a pitch jump, there'll be something changing the sound, like a synced oscillator level fading in, an fx change, a resonance or EG change, or everything together. It becomes a pretty unique effect that way.

I really want a nord someday! i have eyed the NL 4 and NL A1. Still on a guest for a couple analogs though.
Great ideas though thanks! I wonder is this stuff in the Nord manuals? Might be interesting to read how they do some of their stuff. I wonder if we could use the step sequencer for something like this as well have something like aftertouch trigger it? Well one reason I am digging in again, so many questions.

I think, as always, the power of the Nord isn't really in the features but in the implementation/interface. If you want to make a modulation assignment in the Nord, all you basically do is hold "SW1 modulation button" and twist whatever knob or move whatever slider you want to modulate. This approach only works because virtually all controls are already laid out in front of you. It is of course possible to make virtually all the same assignments on the Kronos (plus many more) but you'd visit a lot of pages and tap the screen dozens of times to set it up. Not really a "problem" as such but it doesn't generally lead your programming in the same direction.

I see! Maybe that is something Kog will address I the future, a quicker way to navigate like a ladder logic page for routing which is kind of in place now but on a higher level view?

I actually never knew that the switches could also be momentary switches. This opens a lot of ideas for me, I think!
