J74 VolcaControl and saving

Post by ammanuel »

Has anyone been able to save patterns? I have patterns which I would like to save to free up the banks. Will I be able to do that with the software?

Thank you

Hi ammanuel,
J74 Volca Control software saves only patches (sound settings). It does not save the sequencer patterns. It also adds some extra features like Key Tracking, second LFO, a paraphonic mode (Poly2), Delay Modulation, to just mention a few. The software is a absolute must have if you're inclined to integrate Volcas to your DAW.

Solution to saving/managing sequencer patterns is external sequencing. I use Korg Kross for this (and also for playing the fine keyboard).

Cheers,
D

Hi Dragan,

Thank you for clearing that for me. I mistook the preset grid for storing sequences.

I am trying to explore what the software offers in terms of performance etc...It looks promising, and I will find out as I explore the software. I have a midi keyboard (novation Launch 25) hooked to it. However, when pressing a key to transpose, the keyboard sounds along with the running pattern of the Bass. Is there a solution I am not considering?

Thank you again. cheers!

Hi Ammanuel,

I don't know if you can avoid the problem you described in your current configuration (internal sequencing & external keyboard), probably not. With external sequencing (as I do it) it's pretty simple, just a matter of switching keyboard sync off. On the beginning I loved the internal sequencer on the Volcas, but as time passed the need for more complex patterns came upon me. I also needed more control and pattern storage. All these issues are solved with an external sequencer.

The J74 software is a true hammer, it makes life much easier, also mind the extras you gain with it. Pratical example: in my studio I don't fiddle with the Volca microknobs, I prefer to make pattern settings on J74 interface and store them in different categories.

Cheers,

Hi Dragan,

It would be great to create sequences externally and also for storage.

"...just a matter of switching keyboard sync off."

is this the option in Live's Preference? I am using the Standalone version of the software, and the novation keyboard to setting the parameters. It sounds like for external sequencing with the keyboard I will have to use DAW (Live9)...is there a tutorial or instruction video for the set-up you are using?

thank you.

Hi Ammanuel,

I switch the keyboard syncing off on Korg Kross (which I use as master keyboard to drive the Volcas and other synths).

I could use the MIDI-out of an Novation synth which happens to be in the setup but I prefer to connect the Volca to MIDI-out of my audio interface (Behringer UMC404HD), MIDI-routing is done by J74, no Ableton involved at this point.

I am sequencing with hardware, but you can also use your Ableton DAW software to do this job. The only extra gear you will need (if you don't already own it) is a audio interface with MIDI.

Hi Dragan,

I am using a Novation launchkey 25 with a usb port and iconnectivity4 for routing...

the novation launchkey is a midi-controller, as you know, without a sequencer etc....i will switch it with the original microkorg with 8 steps and see what comes of it.

thank you for your help.

Cheers

Ammanuel
