volca, mixer and ableton Live rec
I am trying to record the volcas to ableton live( I am using PC not Mac) via the mixer output. I am using iMic interface btween the mixer and Live. However, the signals in the audio clip nor in the master strip of Live (selected iMic in the audio preference of Live). iMic by Griffin is a device used to transfer non-digital output to digital.
Kind stuck.
Any advice?
I have checked for drivers and sound devices. And everything on that end seems to be in order....or i think it looks to me.
Thank you.

Q1. Have you recorded audio with iMic before and it worked fine?
Q2. What kind of mixer do you use?
If all set up properly you should be switching the iMic to "line" and be able to record in Ableton.

Hi Ammanuel,ammanuel wrote:Hi Dragan,
Yes, I have used the iMic before on a mac without the mixer.
The mixer is a Tascam-06.
I have the iMic switched to Line.....so mildly frustrated at the moment:)
Thank you for responding.
I remember those moments of frustration very good when things don't work as expected. Still have them from time to time but usually they resolve in no time.
So, you have a fair signal from your Volca on the mixer (I suppose you monitor it there by earphones). You're connected with a Y-cable from mixer main-out to the iMic audio-in. iMic is set to "line". Your Ableton is running but you have no signal when your track is armed for audio rec.
It could be Ableton, the mixer, Y-cable or the drivers issue. To resolve this try connecting a microphone to iMic (switch it to "mic") and see if you can capture some audio from the microphone into Ableton. If yes you have sorted out Ableton & drivers. If you have another Y-cable of same type you can try switching it. If it still doesn't work (with the other cable) then it can be only the mixer. Next, connect Volca directly to the iMic.

D

Hi Dragan,
Very true they do get resolved and turn into a learning experience and familiarity of the process

yes. I have the rca coming out of the mixer output into the iMic in switched to "line". Live is channels are picking ambience but not the audio. I have alternated btn ASIO driver and iMic in the audio preference setting of Live. The direct to iMic did not work either. I also attempted to input from the headphone output to the iMic intput.... no go
I will attempt more variation or try it with the iMac.
Thank you again for your time and suggestions, Dragan. Much appreciated.

Hi Dragan,
It works on the imac. So, it seems the problem is Ableton Live in PC ( drivers) audio configuration in pc.The Driver type in the PC for Live is MME/Directx which does recognize iMac as its input device and output.
I prefer to use pc because of its portability.
Are you using pc or mac? If you are using pc is MME/DirectX the driver?
Thank you.
Cheers

on a Mac there is one single audio driver system software called Core Audio (made by Apple) which standard all hardware manufacturers have to meet. That's why all Mac certified audio hardware is plug & play on Macs.
On Windows there are as many hardware drivers as there are manufacturers out there, in fact each hardware component may have more than one driver version. To make a long story short: it's a huge mess.
On Windows you should use ASIO-drivers, most recommended are those from the manufacturer itself (if they work). A good option is the Universal ASIO Driver which works for most hardware. Get it here http://www.asio4all.com/ Good luck!
Cheers,
D
ps. I'm using both, Mac & Windows.
