That wonderful little battery !!!!

Hey all

My RAM backup battery has ended up totally useless.
I have removed it and will most likely not bother replacing it (hope my PA3X doesn't get angry with that!)

Also at the same time I noticed that my PA3X date/time was resetting - so I've replaced the Date/time battery (CR2032)

(By the way, thanks John (Reuben) for the previous help topic with regard to replacing the clock battery on the PA3X-61)

So when I did this I took photos etc of the PA3X-76 open-up procedure.
Basically the same as the PA3X=61 but a couple of subtle differences.
I will post them here in a document later for anyone who is interested in the next day or so.

Cheers

Pete :D
(Can power off my PA3X now and sleep easy!!! Don't like dead batteries hanging around in any device  )

Maxx audio settings are reseting without RAM battery . Check that out ;)

My suggestion is that you order and insert new RAM battery . You will have faster boot time and Maxx audio will work properly.

Cheers.

OK thanks for all this feedback however, can you please explain what part of Maxx is volatile and gets reset without the battery backup?

Reason I ask is that, now I have no battery installed, I am turning my PA3X completely off (not stand-by) but my Maxx audio settings do not change at all after power up.

Just tested this by making new changes and they do not reset after power off.

Have I misunderstood something here?

Thanks

Pete , save a new Maxx preset , then disconnect Pa3X main power (or turn off power switch) for half an hour and
then ckeck back your saved preset.

Hi Antony

Thanks - I have just done the following:-
(My PA3X has no RAM battery installed)
  • Powered ON my PA3X - all my MAxx presets are there and the last one I selected is active.
I changed Maxx audio (made some ridiculous changes like very low bass and very low treble)
Saved this preset as "Nobass notreble"
Powered off my PA3X using standby button
Powered OFF my PA3X using mains switch
    Waited 30 minutes
    Powered back on
In Maxx audio, my preset *Nobass notreble" is selected and active and all my other custom presets are selectable.
Are you saying this should not be the case?
What would you have expected? No presets listed? etc....

Thanks

Cheers

Then You have nothing to worry about with unplugged ST-BY baterry !
I can't test it in mine since it's modified with a 10 years st-by battery module I've designed , but If I remember correctly ,I've
seen this issue in 2-3 older Pa3X clients that (as Vex said) they lost all saved Maxx presets when unplugged ST-BY batteries.
Another test you can do is : change a maxx parameter without saving it , exit global , play a style and then enter back in Global
and see if this new parameter value is still changed !
If not then ST-BY battery affects temporary memory of Maxx settings , and maybe this is the actual issue there !

Tried everything - can't get it to fault - Maxx remains solid

Only changes when I load a full different SET of course but then I would definitely want that.

If you can see that preset then it means that you maybe own a corrected hardware Pa3X version of recent product series !
Hi Antony,
Do you know from what serial number this 'corrected hardware' would have been included. Does this just apply to the 76? I just bought a used Pa3x-61 (from DonM of this parish) so I'm curious about this.

I don't know what the life expectancy of the battery is in mine. The board is in daily use, but so far has only been switched off to Standby mode. It'll be going out on gigs soon, so obviously it'll be disconnected from the mains a couple of times a day.

--------

Hi Pete,
Looking forward to pics. of your adventures in batteryland - particularly the CR2032. Maybe I'll be yanking the RAM battery out of mine when the time comes. Do let us know if your board does "get angry".:)

Hi,
MaxxAudio is not a hardware issue.
I have been using my pa3x without the battery for more than 3 years and MaxxAudio works ok.

Long time ago I got this answer:
michagi wrote:When testing sound quality in a large reception hall I told him I can boost the sound with MaxxAudio, and shortly after I realized it doesn't work properly without battery.
This is a known bug. All MaxxAudio Presets are reset to the saved values every 15 seconds. If you Write the Preset before the values are reset, the new values will be maintained.

This problem will disappear when you replace the battery again.

EDIT: OS 1.5 will solve this issue. Please note that we will complete shipment of replacement batteries within the end of september.

Best regards,
Paolo
Make sure you have OS 1.5 or later
