Volca Sample Hicut filter - adding resonance?

Post by Big Driver »

Hi all,
I've been using my volca sample for a lot of techno/acid recently, and would like a way of adding some resonance to the hicut and getting that classic 303 filter sound on my bass samples. I know that the volca sample isn't analogue, so editing parameter presets isn't as simple as the soldering you can do on, for example, the snare on the volca beats. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with/idea about editing the software yourself and installing it like a firmware update. Tbh i'm not even sure if the hicut would even have the capacity for resonance, but any input would be great :)

Maybe coming at it from the wrong angle, but how about running it through another synth (if you have one available)? Something like the Waldorf Rocket or the Microbrute has an audio in and a nice resonant low pass filter.

Or (and this is a trick from my old "Music 2000" days on the Playstation), if you have a nice long acid one-shot sample with a filter sweeping across the note, then you can mimic 303 cutoff tweakery by playing with the sample start position.

But I totally don't know anything about editing the on-board firmware.

Or, get the Volca Bass. You know you want to.

I'm considering getting a monotribe, so I could always run it through that, but i was more looking at being able to edit individual samples as opposed to the master mix on it. It's good to be able to play a small set just off the sample tho, so I might try that start point trick :)
The volca bass does look good but I've never heard it being used really well for more high pitched acid stuff - it's still on my wishlist though ;)
