Accessing Kronos midi tracks from Logic Pro X midi tracks

Post by whardy7 »

I've researched this for the last three hours and cam come up with nothing.

I simply want to have Midi tracks in Logic that match the Sequencer tracks in the Kronos2. When I select that track in Logic, I want it to play that sound when I play the Kronos2.

I have the sequencer set up to 8 different tracks on their respective Midi channels. I have also set the Midi channels in Logic for each track. There has to be setting somewhere that I'm not getting.

I don't care to use the Kronos2 sequencer - just assuming that's the mode I need to be in in order to access different sounds from Logic.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Is Logic receiving midi correctly? Meaning if you record something, do notes appear?
If so, either you have not set the output port correctly (but I think you have, going by your other thread) or input echo isn't working. Have you tried enabling input echo manually on the track?

Oh also, on the Kronos, local midi control needs to be set to "off" in global preferences. Remember to save the setting. And to turn it back on the next time you want to play your Kronos without a computer ;)

Yes, I have no problem getting midi into Logic. I've got that all figured out. And since then, I actually have Logic playing back different sounds from the Kronos on different midi channels.

What is interesting is that Logic accepts Kronos input when in Program mode, but not in Sequencer mode. I would assume that if I select track 5 in Logic (for example). which is set to midi channel 5, then select track 5 in the Kronos which is also set to midi channel 5, I should be able to record with that sound on that track. But, Logic doesn't hear anything when the Kronos is in Sequencer mode.

If I change to Program mode and choose that sound, Logic accepts the input. I'm wondering if Sequencer mode isn't sending midi data the same way or if there is a setting that would change this.

Any ideas?

There should be no need to select a track on the Kronos at all. You can keep sending midi from channel 1 and if you select channel 5 output in Logic it should route it to timbre 5 on the Kronos. At least normally the Logic track input should be omni and the OUTPUT whichever midi channel you want. In your sequence, are all timbres set to "INT"? Try setting timbre 1 to "BTH" (both) and see if it works then.

Sorry for guessing a bit here, I practically never do this.
