The singer at our club sings unaccompanied using a mic and small amp. To save humping kit I thought that I would plug her mic into my 4x ( with PaAS speaker bar).

The result was disappointing as I could not get any appreciable volume. l had the mic volume turned right up and tried full volume on the board as well. I tried with and without harmony/duet.

Am I doing something wrong?

What make and model of microphone is being connected ?

Sorry but the mic is locked up in our club room but I think it's a Shure. It has an on/off switch on it.

Mm ! That does not really tell us a lot, broadley speaking any Shure should be good but what we dont know is the impeadance of the microphone. I can connect a range of Senheisers, AKG and Shure to my Pa4x. I have and am using Shure 515s and SM58 and SM58 Beta without any issue.

Hi Bob. While I don't own a Pa4x (yet) I read in the manual (page 840) on setting up the mic that there is a 22db to 55db gain knob on the back next to the mic input. Have you tried to adjust that one?

Does the 4x have the same gain knob at the back like the3x does?

The obvious culprit would be the input volume knob on the back. If that is turned up and it still has the problem, it could possibly be the compressor/limiter settings on the mic.
Check Automatic on all the settings on the Mic edit page and see if that helps.
Also check your mic cable. A good XLR cable should work. Some 1/4-inch cables may not work as well.

Thanks very much for all the helpful replies and YES, there is a tiny gain knob on the back which I wasn't aware of!

I guess this is the solution which I will test on next club night.

Just tried out the mic again and yes, the problem was being caused by the little gain knob on the back which was turned to minimum.

Hi Bobb. I follows this trade with using the microphone. Are you and the singer satisfied with the result and handling as a mixer?
Yet I use af MG 10/2 mixer too the small jobs. But the preamp for the microphone make distotion noise. Yet I use Korg PA2xpro but I hope, that I get the PA4 in 2017.

Sorry I can't help you with the mic question because we have re-organised our club equipment such that I don't need to use my Pa4x for the singer...

Thanks for answer. I have ordret a new small Allen & Hearth mixer, and will use that for small dinerjob. I have further used the microphone input in the Korg PA2xPro, but is not easy too use live.

The mic input preamp in Pa4x is a little bit tricky, because there is a sort of doubler in the signal which make the voice thicker...
