I tried reading the manual but since there were no pictures of pretty girls I got bored by the second page! 
I think having some prior experience with "Korg products helps but isn't absolutely necessary. I do know that the manuals are very well written but I've always been a "dive in and hope for the best" kind of guy. I've always hope there would be a "Kronos for Dummies" book because early on I suddenly couldn't get it to make any sound at all!
Of course it's all fine now!
