Problem playing Volcas with MIDI keyboard

Post by n414083 »

Hi

I'm new to music production so this is probably a silly question but I've looked online and I can't work out what I'm doing wrong. I use Ableton and I just got myself a MIDI keyboard which works fine. I'd like to be able to play my Volcas using the keyboard but I can't work out how to do this.

I'm able to record from my Volcas into Ableton through my audio interface. I got a MIDI cable and I've connected my Volcas to the MIDI out port on the interface but I haven't been able to play the Volcas using the keyboard. The keyboard connects to my PC with a USB cable. Does anyone know what the problem is here?

Hi newbie with a unique name,

You have a quite basic MIDI-routing problem.
You have to configure Ableton as follows:

1. create a MIDI and an audio-track
2. now configure the MIDI-track to send MIDI-data to the hardware port where you plug your Volca
(if you don't see the ins & outs in Ableton you ough to enable it in the View menu)
3. arm your MIDI and audio-track for recording

Now you should be able to record both MIDI data and audio at the same time.

Cheers,
D
