Orchestral in the Kronos

Post by methusala »

Can anyone point me in the direction of developers who programme orchestral sounds for the Kronos----AND who use them?

Have you been to the Kronos sound libraries' shop?

https://shop.korg.com/kronossoundlibraries

I would suggest these four:

EXs15 Classic and Ambient Choir
EXs16 Funk and Soul Brass
EXs50 KARO Symphonic Library
EXs51 KARO Unison Orchestra

Those would cover most of your needs. You could also check EXs11 Legendary Strings. It's lower on my list because it is a "virtual memory" hog. Also, EXs52 KARO Chamber Strings. And, check out the sets under the KApro label.

Disclaimer: I have not purchased any Kronos libraries (will be getting the Funk and Choir), but have the KSL library, and I was fortunate to obtain the unreleased KUO set, for the OASYS. I did 3 song demos with it:

Song 1

Song 2

I have the EXs11 Legendary Strings and can confirm it's a memory hog - however with the current Kronos OS it's pretty easy to load only those sounds you really want/need and leave the rest unloaded. Just a heads up.
Can't really comment on the quality difference with the others but it's pretty good and lots better than the stock stuff.

Mike and Sander,

This has been a long, running point with me holding me back from shelling out on K2. Thank you for your replies. I know you have it and you would doubtless say your music has developed as a result.

IF ONLY I COULD FIND A RETAILER IN THE UK NEAR TO THE MIDLANDS TO SIT IN FRONT OF A KRONOS FOR A WHILE, I'D PROBABLY WHIP OUT MY CREDIT CARD THEN AND THERE, AND CARRY IT HOME IN MY VOLVO.

[Deliberate CAPITALS hoping to get a contact. I'm not going to buy unless I've tried. I do have some KARO libraries for the O which I use frequently. Remember, I have the O and I had the chance to play it before the wallet appeared !!!

PMT in Birmingham are worth contacting. If they don't have a Kronos in store, they will probably be able to get one in for you to try.

In the meantime, if you have access to any Korgs with a broadly similar design philosophy e.g. Oasys, M3, Triton Extreme, M50, then try to have a few hours with that beforehand in order to get the most out of your time with the Kronos. The Oasys has the greatest similarity to the Kronos.

Hi

Why not go to the Korg website and use the dealer locator? That's what I did two years ago - and came up with PMT in Bristol as my nearest dealer (three hours drive away!)

It was worth the drive. :)

We must have some UK members in your neighborhood... Hopefully someone will let you try it out for a while.

I am using the factory string programs for cover tunes, late 50's and 60's. They are definitely useable. There is a Netflix series called House of Cards and the Kronos strings also get the job done for the music score.

Just a few examples
