Running everything flat out on KRONOS

I have had my KRONOS now for over two years.
In that time i have learned to use KRONOS much better.
I have made many of my own samples (KSC).
Have made many programs, and created a fair amount of combis.
Got to know KARMA better.
Learned to completely remote other midi gear from KRONOS.
Created many songs in KRONOS sequencer.
Although i have many songs, they have had, up to this point, only a few very short test audio tracks within them.
Recently, over the course of about a week, i have been adding some vocal audio tracks to the songs.
Here is the cool part.

I had in real time, KRONOS recording and playing back many stereo audio tracks.
Many internal and external midi tracks.
KRONOS Midi control of my MX49, using MX49 as midi tracks in KRONOS sequencer.
MX49 audio going into analogue inputs of KRONOS.
KRONOS midi control of my TC HELICON VOICEWORKS vocal processor.
SPDIF digital VOICEWORKS audio signal going into KRONOS.
KRONOS midi control of my MININOVA.
Automation of internal and external sounds and midi.
KARMA and wavesequences, and many FX.
With everything running flat out, KRONOS didnt have a glitch or a hiccup.
I dont care about the newest next workstation.
I have all i will ever need with this beautufull masterpiece.
KRONOS RULES!!! :D :D :D :)

that is tremendous progress for over 2 years.

I would guess you have put a lot of time and effort in making Kronos the central part of your recording and performance creativity.

I am taking a slightly different turn, going to integrate a Macbook and VI's into my home setup.

Like you, I enjoy the SEQ.

It does not get much better than this.

I think back/compare to the 70's and believe we live in the very best of musical creative times with all the great instruments and resources at our fingertips.

I am all for achieving our musical dreams :)

Yes, KRONOS is basicaly my entire studio.
I completely agree that this is a wonderfull time to be an electronic musician.
Seems there is something for everyone these days.
I think back to the 70s and 80s.
If KRONOS would have came out then, i would have crapped my pants and died. :)

Hey Space! Anywhere in particular to look for control of other keyboards / modules using the Kronos as the main controller, ie, Set List switching parameters / patches on connected devices? Need to do exactly this.

Thanks much,

Hi tjdeerinck.
I will try to explain my setup as best i can.
KRONOS, All my other synths and my vocal front end are midied together using old school midi ports and a MIDIMAN midi thru box.
With my external synth hooked into a BEHRINGER mixer.
The BEHRINGER mixer going into KRONOS stereo analogue inputs.
My vocal front end goes spdif into KRONOS digital optical input.
I use a SIG toslink converter to match my digital ins and outs.

First i make sure KRONOS global mode is set to factory defaults, with exception of bit rate in system preferences.
Any external midi devices i set the local control to off.(play everything from KRONOS)
In KRONOS sequencer i go to Track Parameter.
From there i can set internal or external midi tracks to INT,BTH,EXT, or EX2.
INT-internal midi tracks.
BTH-internal and external midi tracks.
EXT, EXT2- external midi tracks.
To record midi data from external synth into KRONOS, i use KRONOS track 1 for recording an entire external synth in performance mode.
In my case external synth is YAMAHA MX49.
MX tracks bieng on midi channel 1 for sounds and 10 for drums.
KRONOS track 1 also has midi settings of EXT2, and is used for MSB and LSB
MSB and LSB allows you to insert program changes of external synths.
MSB and LSB settings for external midi gear can be set in the triple digit numbers under EX2.
To just record individual external midi tracks (not external synth performance mode),record with EXT.
Just match midi channels for intrenal and external midi.
EXT2 allows you to insert program changes from external synths.
To insert external midi program changes with KRONOS, go to Track Edit tab.
Touch pull down menu in upper right of lcd.
Touch Midi Event Edit.
Uncheck all boxes except Program Change.
Go to measure 1 or 2 and touch insert.
Bank number should look like this ---
Set No, a number lower than external midi synth.
Touch Done.
Always hit start/stop when going to begining of a sequence, otherwise your external synth will not sound correctly.
As far as setlist mode, i havent done much in that mode except for putting some info in.
You probably know most of what i am describing, but i wanted to make sure i covered it.
I dont know if any of this helps, but thats basicaly how i work with KRONOS.
If you have any further questions feel free to ask.

Congrats, that's serious progress! I always love to really get to know an instrument beyond playing patches.

Just from reading your last post, what's the purpose of the Behringer mixer between the MX49 and the Kronos? Seems an unnecessary source of distortion and noise?

I use KRONOS as my studio DAW.
The behringer is to run my MX49, MININOVA, MONOTRON DELAY.
and any additinal gear into KRONOS.
Those little BEHRINGER mixers are very good.
$270 worth of MOGAMI cables keeps everything punchy and clean.

Your progress is fine - I still have to look for the names on the buttons so I can change the function of the pots for tweaking realtime parameters like release mostly - round in circles half the time, in an out of Karma lol - what a dick.

I have found this to be one of the most solid and reliable sequencers since my Roland W30. I just wish the jog dial would sound the notes as you scroll through - it makes removing dropped notes so much easier - nobody does this anymore. I had to live without 'Wait for note' record for years as well after the W30 - in fact that's not on the Kronos either is it? What is it with Korg sequencing? Prior to this I used FLStudio which I never ever thought could be used professionally when I got Fruity Loops 3 way back clothes were made of bark and rabbits were shoes. The timing is rock solid on the Kronos though - can't fault it compared to previous versions. Does anyone else miss jog scrolling for bum notes? Mind you I miss Bazooka bubble gum and Wham bars, not that I could chew one now..... 23 to 50 in ten years, that's what happens when you sleep n a microwave oven.

Thanks much for the reply.

Looks like you have a lot of though into your setup.
