When I am making a beat in sequencer mode:not using a preset pattern. Do I really have to put all of my percussion instruments on separate tracks? Let me explain. I'll make a four or eight bar beat, and then loop it. It is all good until I attempt to add more percusion like hats or an 808 kick. What happens next? The whole beat being erased is what happens. I know I am doing something wrong, you cant possibly have to put all that on separate tracks. It would eat up my tracks like the cookie monster please help! javascript:emoticon(':shock:')

Overdub adds to the existing track, and also lets you change levels like volume, bass, treb etc. If you screw up you can use "Compare" to go back to the original.

I don't make beats using the Kronos sequencer, but I'm pretty sure you don't need to create a new track for each new drum part you want to add.

Typically on MIDI channel 10 is where you create beats. On track 10, you put a drum kit, where each key is a different instrument. Then you record your beat, using Overdub, where it loops and each time around you can add another drum part like the open hi hats or claps or whatever.

Thanks again for your help. The overdub worked perfect. I have been using a Fantom X7 for the last 10 years so getting acclimated may take while. Getting every thing on beat is bit of a struggle, but with expertise and a whole lot of video watching we are going to be alright. The Fantom x7 was a straight up Hip Hop keyboard but I learned how to manipulate it to do all genres. This beast I have now is like going from a cadillac to a benz: lots of features and lots of toys.
