Help Duplicating Data to Another Kronos

Here’s the situation… I’m trying to duplicate everything from one K2 to another K2. It appears that all the data from my usb stick data has been successfully copied and pasted to the HDD. I can see my samples and combis, but see a note in the very top of the display that says ‘samples not loaded’. If I go to Global KSC auto load and select ‘do auto-load now’ I see the message ‘this will erase all EXs and RAM samples’. I’m already seeing a lot of RED above some of the 16 tracks in combi mode. I may have deleted something already. Now what??

The first thing to know is if both kronos have the same sound sets and authorization.
Even if they do, are they the same generation of Kronos?
Particularly the original kronos to Kronos X and then to Kronos 2.
If both Kronos are Kronos 2 or later generations, then you should be ok with moving one factory file contents to the other.
Kronos 2 came out with a free 3rd party set that still requires authorization
And that will not pass from one kronos to the other but you can get the authorization for the other if you need it.
Even if both kronos have been authorized for the same sound set, there may be an issue copying sound set files from one to the other, where they do not share the same authorization code for the exact same sound set.
1. Are both Kronos the exact same generation model?
2. Does the Kronos you copy from, contain any third party sound set files requiring authorized installation?
3. Are you trying to merge the incoming loading with loaded files preexisting on the kronos that is receiving the new loading?
I think the answer to these three questions will make the difference in getting the solution.

Thank you...both are K2's. Third party programs are NOT involved. I managed to fat finger something a few years ago and removed some EXs. That's when I saw red boxes in combi mode (should be blue) I'm trying to remember how I fixed it then.
As I said the samples are there, but NOT linked to the programs.
UPDATE..I reloaded all the EXs and most of the red boxes are gone. However, samples that were converted to programs are not playing as they should. I think the key here is the auto load, but if I do auto load I'm deleting EXs.

Deleting EXs?
You should be deleting EXs if you are loading in the full content from another Kronos. The old content has to be deleted to be replaced with full content of another kronos. Even if both are identical, the receiving kronos will still alert you about deleting existing files to replace them with identical copies.
If you are not trying to keep the preexisting EXs from the intaking kronos, then deleting should not be a problem.
Also, both kronos can and should be backed up with what content they had before the exchange.. Then surgery to merge parts and pieces can be done.
If you are trying to make the one Kronos an exact copy of the other, then deleting should not be a problem.
If you are trying to keep select content from one and mix it with the other, according your custom needs, i doubt that is as simple and is not something a stranger can help sort out.
Even loading the factory content over the same identical factory content all within the same kronos, produces an alert saying it will delete EXs on my kronos. I have that happen delete alert when i merge or update files and make a new consolidated ones for auto load. I ignore it as long as i know i am writing in a file that already includes everything i would be deleting.
Also it not just Auto load in global that makes the full setup.
The problem in Combi may be related to differences in Program and Combi setup, between the two Kronos.
So you go to Disk mode for that and do a Load of the PCG from the other Keyboard.
Load in global KSC for EXs and user samples.
Then load in Disk mode for PCG.
The two boards cannot be a copy of each other until you load a copy for PCG from disk mode as well as the copy of autoload KSC from Global mode.
Even the general settings of Global mode, cannot be loaded from global like KSC is. Global mode settings load with PCG from disk mode.

You've given me a lot of good info to process. I'll go to work and try and sort it all out. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks
One other question...I just registered the new one with Korg, will they send me some kind of code that may help with unlocking something?

This to me is one of the most frustrating things about the Kronos. As a musician who does fly dates and locally uses some third party custom sounds on my Kronos X88 it is not as simple as dumping all to a USB and loading into a similar Kronos provided by the rental company at the venue. This is a HUGE problem for those of us who want to use the Kronos on the road but don't want to trust our synths with airlines and baggage handlers.
I understand about IP and 3rd party licensing but comon.....this is a real problem.

Yep...I totally understand. I've been working for hours and I'm going to walk away before my head explodes. I'm missing something!! I'm looking for videos, but no luck yet. I see my samples, but they won't auto load so my prog/combis won't work. I'm still seeing 'red' at the top of my combis so sounds are missing. WOW

Registration is what lets them send you authorization codes for installation of sound sets from Korg shop. Good also for warranty and legal issues.
Firmware and OS updates are open and no need for codes. Just download them from korg website.
Maybe a good time check on your Firmware and OS updates for the new kronos.

Another thing about loading KSC files in Global.
You have to slect them in the disk mode archive and i know that whenever i backup files for storage or transfer, the KSC part always seems to save in 2 or 3 partitions or separate files.
I think i recall issues in the past where i selected KSC files that were empty or partial, so i had to go back and find which of the three was the right one to load.
I won’t be surprised if that is your problem with KSC loading.
Be sure to open up the KSC files in disk mode and open them all the way down to see the smallest unit of content, to be sure it contains all the EXs you need.
Once you see the full content of a selected KSC file, then decide if that is the one you want to load.
The unopened file has to be loaded for its entirety to load, but i am not sure which of the 2 or 3 KSC files from a PCG save or Save All, is the right one to load.
Try them one by one to be sure which is the full file that works.

Good call on the firmware and OS. I have 1.10 and 3.1.3 so that’s not it. I probably have 75 small samples, but they’re all small bits. I’m not sure if I completely understand everything about the disc stuff, but I’ll do my best tomorrow. I’m done for today. Thanks again for your help.

UPDATE…Well, here’s what I think happened. It appears that the new K2 comes loaded from the factory with some extra EXs. When trying to load data from the older K2 to the new one, files get shifted, I think. So after re-loading ALL EX files (some were deleted during this process) I had to go through every program that used a multi-sample and convert the MS to the proper program again. It didn’t take too long, but now I think everything is operational again. Thanks for your suggestions.
