Problem installing Korg OS Update v301

Dear all,
I have a problem trying to install the new Korg OS.

I'm using an Apple iMac and wonder if that may be the problem.

First: I am having difficulty making sense of the instructions in the KORG "Loading The OS" guide.

Second: When I drag the files named Pa4X_Operating_System_301.pkg and Pa4X_Operating_System_v301.upd to my USB drive.
They don't "open".
The ".pkg" file remains looking like a little yellow cardboard box.
The ".upd" file remains grayed out.
When I insert the USB into the KORG and press the Intro 1 and Power On buttons > to the Touch Screen Calibration, neither of these files are present in the System Update window.

I had several attempts at opening these files on my USB drive by double clicking etc but get an error message as follows:

The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1.)
Couldn’t open “Pa4X_Operating_System_v301.pkg”

I'm not very technical but I did load the version 2 update without any difficulty. I'm at my wits end.

I download the Osimo package today but I too scared to try installing that now.

Any advise will be much appreciated.

Hey John

IMPORTANT question first - you say you're installing OS 3.0.1 - you must already have OS 3.0.0 installed FIRST before OS 3.0.1 (just checking)
So, DO NOT INSTALL OS 3.0.1 BEFORE installing OS 3.0.0
Second: When I drag the files named Pa4X_Operating_System_301.pkg and Pa4X_Operating_System_v301.upd to my USB drive.
They don't "open".
The ".pkg" file remains looking like a little yellow cardboard box.
The ".upd" file remains grayed out.

Correct - they should not open - just leave them there on the USB - DO NOT try to OPEN these files they can only be processed by your PA4X.
When I insert the USB into the KORG and press the Intro 1 and Power On buttons > to the Touch Screen Calibration, neither of these files are present in the System Update window.
After you've performed the screen calibration you have to select the USB drive (bottom left on screen) and then you'll see the file that YOUR PA4X recognises (either PKG or UPD)
Just follow the instructions as they are written and it should al e fine BUT....
...I can send you a PM if you are still having problems....

Whoops ..... Oh bugger.
Sorry Pete, my keyboard is still version 2.0 June 2017.
It’s now 11:30 pm here in Vietnam.
I’ll attack it again tomorrow Pete when I haven’t had a big dinner and a couple of glasses of red.
Fingers crossed.
What can I say ..... I feel like a banana. I didn’t see that part of the procedure.

Kind regards,
Old Boofhead.

you must already have OS 3.0.0 installed FIRST before OS 3.0.1
Pete, are you sure about that?
I thought Korg said you must already have OS 2.0. or higher installed FIRST before OS 3.0.1 :?:

Regards
Mike

Hi guys, I just printed the installation instructions again, and, yes. It says I must have version 2 installed - which I do?
This is so confusing.
Pete, when I look at the screen on my Pa4X - bottom LH corner, it doesn’t show my USB at all?

Is it possible for me to attach a photo to these messages I could make it more clear what is happening. It’s hard to explain in words.

Kind regards
Johnma

Could it be possible you may need to install version 2.2 first?

It is not necessary. Minimum requirement is having 2.0 OS.

To install V3.0.0 you must have 2.0.0 or higher installed
To Install V3.0.1 you must have 3.0.0 installed - you cannot go straight to V3.0.1 from V2

Cheers

Before installing 3.0.1 you DON'T need to install 3.0.0 but be sure your Pa4X already includes OS v2.0.0.

Definitely my mistake - I thought OS 3.0.1 was purely incremental - obviously not....

SO sorry - I've just confused everyone - think I need a break from all of this ](*,)

Looks like upgrade straight to V3.0.1 is fine as long as you are at any OS V2 level

Please send me lots of wine

Most confusing ! I have been reading about these last 2 updates and I am not the only one who is confused. The other thing about 3 and 3.01 is that it sounds like there are still problems. Guess I plan to wait till korg gets their act together. any idea when (or even if ) Kotg plans to roll out a fix for the updates
and will they make it so one does not have be a software expert to install it properly ?

Yeah - sorry

If you want to go to V3 or V3.0.1 you must first have V2 installed (any V2 level is fine)

There will always be bugs in any OS level on just about any keyboard of similar complexity but many of us are not having any serious issues.

It's, of course, your call whether you "wait" or not - you can always try V3 and go back to V2 if you feel it is necessary. Korg support this and procedures are in their V3 documentation included in the update download.

Cheers

Problem fixed ...... thanks to all who offered suggestions.
Special HUGE thanks to Karmerthanever (Pete) who spared no effort and even provided a perfect step by step installation list which I printed and ticked off each step as I worked through. It made it clear to me by a process of elimination that I either had a fault USB drive or a faulty USB port on my keyboard.
I raced across the road and bought a new Sandisk USB drive for $7.
I came home loaded the pkg to the new USB and voila! Problem fixed and v3.01 installed and working.

Many thanks guys.
John
