Friends, possibly a really good repair..read on....

This is being added to my 01W/fd now....:

The material is from an ex. kit in that heading on the left margin of their site. As you will see, it op. fine frm 3-4.5 V and can be cut with scissors easily, and is paper thin,,(just slide it in)...a big plus...??

I saw an 01W with the repair, and it appeared superior to the original to me...(But I have been looking at a dim screen for a long time....)!!!

How long it will hold up I don't know...It is only $22+ for the kit...so in the increasing void of any good replacement, it could be a real boon to OLDER Korg equipment owners..(The equip, not the owners.... )

P.S.,

I now notice the lamp alone is $15...you won't need the power sup..and there would surely be several good sources for the lite already on-board...Sounds really cheap to me....

(anyone know the orig. Volts/amps for the backlite?? probably the tech. was using the orig. supply on the one shown to me..(meant to ask, and got off on something else and forgot...))?

It should be a possible solution....As mine was apart, I went ahead with it, and will see my own working in a week or so.

The one I have already seen, the techs own instrument, is fine, in my opinion, and the only question will be in fact, how well it holds up; how long it is successful. If not for a reasonable period it is less useful...However, it is certainly cheap enough, which is a plus...as the disassembly is bad enough alone, to scare away some possible users...

However,...You know, some of the replacements made for the purpose were giving up in a matter of less than a year in a few cases I read of...so it should be at least that good...I have been trying to find persons with experience with these thin panels, but havn't found anyone with long term knowledge...

I keep meaning to put this on the 01W list, and I forget...Maybe I will do it tomorrow, or perhaps several that also inhabit this area will relay it...

I will post my own findings after using a few weeks...

Hello Friends, Have My 01Wfd back from repairs...,

I will report on how the backlight is holding up in the future...

But for the present...My repairs for 14 switches..(those around the center bezel area that are used so much...), the battery, the backlight and general checking and a few other small tasks, came to $308.00 at this shop..(mentioned prev)...The backlight was only $22 of that, as the board was opened up anyway...that was expensive as you all know...

Comments for now on this NEW IDEA backlight which costs as little as 15 to 20 dollars if you do it yourself...:

First, it is not quite bright enough for me, but is still easily read...I DO know they used a source of very low voltage to be sure the life of the element is long...The info on the SITE I gave above in a prev. post covers the voltage supply for "normal" operation..

Next, It has a slightly "grainy" look to it, but that is likely from the lower voltage they used...It really is not bad...It shows very littl, but it does look different than the orig...

The color is blue, but others colors are available...

Advantages may be:

Price, at $15 up..., It can be cut with any sharp object!!, It is very flexible, and, It isn't real picky about power supply. All good reasons to consider.

I am reasonably pleased with it...BUT AGAIN...I don't know about it's permanence...

Doing a bit of teaching for four days a week at times...so I am not in much....

But I would say at this point...

Left my house for a week, and left the 01W on....The backlite is still exactly the same...

I mean to stop over at the shop and check on where they pulled the voltage from, as it is a bit dim for my liking, but there are several diff. sources available, and it would make little diff., it draws so very little it should not be a prob...(There shop unit is a little brighter than mine...think they were just being sure mine would last a long time, as I told them I don't really need it anyway, as I run it under a south window....I thought they told me it was from a 3 volt buss on theirs..but not sure I heard right)

I would at this point say, get it...You have these advantages..:

1. Slips right under..its thin
2. low current
3. Pretty colors
4. Only $15 to $20 if you do it.
5. Seems to last, but that will take time to be sure..
6. Easily available just a day or two.
7. You need a backlite...........

Just a note...

Still LOOKS the same....left it on... overnight and for two days also this week...

(I always used to leave the board on all the time.....Never had anything go out but the backlight..)..and it still didn't need the bat., but I had them put it of course, as we were in there anyway...

Welllll..........,

It started when I forgot it,.. and also, left it on, 'n warm for a few who were working with it after I was gone ..(At a college..)....And I found the heat to be very low, so I just did it for long periods, and never saw a prob.....the longest was about 9 months, as I recall...

That being said, I would certainly NOT recommend it, but I do know many who leave P.A's on and do o.k...Who really knows?? I been doin' this kind of thing a loong time, after all...

My trouble came from exacting classical composition, using the up/down, and associated buttons a LOTTTTT.for corrections and review,..and they were the only prob...I did use the drive a lot as well, but it is orig, as are all other items but the backlite and bat...

All is well now, and a few I know from old are certain with the repairs I did....I have many more YEARS..(???!!!), ..except probably, the drive, and it also has a GREAT rep...but I will likely have to do it soon...

But may I also note...that "others" using it that I mentioned......was WILD students...and you might note that the keybed is still PERFECT with NO sticking notes...and they never "broke" it...

Why shouild I buy a new one??? Just for the sounds? ... I don't use the material except here, (and used to through poor P.A.'s for churches I wrote for)..After all, I am OLLDDD school, and write score, (now I am almost at the point to print simple score from the computer...), and have it played by real live musicians, or myself...

All other use was LIVE, and heck..who cares if you are jus' playing with others, or for a spec occ....at a club, or wedding!!!

Now that I am in here, can you or someone help me????????Thatb damn FTP whatever that I have used to upload to the song thread insisted I go renew, and when I did...nothing worked for me....I HAVE been trying for 2 HOURS to get my Feb song on,.,.,and I can't do it...so I just deleted and uninstalled completely in disgust..

Is there another that a NON-Person like me could get my last song on with??? I am totally frustrated now...

If anyone can tell me what to use, I would be so HAPPY!!!,

Home for the wkend...Sorry I took this off in the wrong direction...All is O.K. now on uploading....Thanks for the offers made by several...I was able to solve it myself...

Just want to say my DISPLAY remains the same as orig. reported...no change...A reminder that there is a slight "mottled" appearence in a few places, not a problem however, and it remains the same brightness..(Mine is on very low voltage..many supply points inside..power supply differs.)...No problems..so it still remains a viable solution at between 15 and 20 bucks,..as some replacements used in the past fail in several months....I will continue to mention the condition of this one for the next year or so...We will see....
