This is great information. Makes much more sense now.

We were testing with txt files but couldn't work out the character set or the line breaks.

As a suggestion would it be worth including some of these details in the manual?

Just in case anybody is interested in a text editor that works with a Mac you might want to try Smultron. http://smultron.sourceforge.net/

You need to make a couple of changes in line with Paolo's reply earlier so here's how:

In the preferences change the following:

In the Open & Save screen change the Encodings option to Always use Western ASCII

In the Advanced screen change the Line Endings to "Dark Side (CRLF)"

Then enter your text into the editor, save the file as a *.txt and copy to the Korg.

Hope this helps anyone who's interested.

HI guys
After reading all your post, I have a last question.
I would like to batch convert .doc files to .txt files, using mi Mac ( not wordpad ) and keeping the right codification, I mean, keeping the line´s jumps when I read the files in my pa1x.

Does somebody know if there is some software like this???

Having read this thread, could anyone now condense some instruction on say having a song in midi flie format and then typing out the lyrics to be displayed on the PA1x screen in time with the music?

I appreciate this may have been covered before, if so can you direct me to related posts.
The font size is not critical, but to have karaoke style lyrics would be good, if they are not totally in time that is also not important but useful to scroll down page roughly in time to the music.

The knowledge and variety of topics in this forum never ceases to amaze me!! Please keep it coming, rest assured someone is always reading even if they do not chip in a comment!!

What type of font to use when edit lyrics in notepad?

I wrote chords above words but in my keyboard they are not on the same place as in notepad.

In the BIG the font is bold 14 pt, and the SMALL is bold 8pt.. These figures are courtesy of Paolo Trammanoni.

You can't add the Lyrics to a MIDI file on the PA keyboard. You have to use a MIDI editor on a separate computer. I use either Band in a Box or Cakewalk Sonar to add Lyrics. Many commercial MIDI files have lyrics already. Lyrics contained within a .MID or .SMF file will auto-scroll in time with the MIDI music.

Record a MIDI file on the Pa keyboard say called MYSONG.MID. Create a MYSONG.TXT file on a PC using Notepad containing the lyrics. This is one thing that still has not changed since operating system 1.0 on the original PA1.
Both Ketron and Roland allow you to place live markers on your imported text file so the page moves down as the midi file progresses..
It doesn't do line by line (vis-a-vis Karaoke), but in my view that is not needed. Just a marker in the midi to move the page down.
I do not believe this would be too difficult for Korg.

And they could also please please PLEASE change the format to at LEAST an RTF (.DOC would be even better), so when chord symbols are placed on a seperate line, the spacing remains as you entered on the word processor.
Neither of these things would require much in the way of progammingm and I believe they have been asked for a few times in the past.

I know it's easy to ask. Without having to go to any software. The sequencer is now just missing the editor lirycs or karaoke, as if it were sound, cubase .. etc etc ... and it would be good more departures (output) to attempt a SURROUND sound speakers with different positions and have such instrumentations drum / speakers 1 / 2. Bass / speakers-al center guitar/speakers3 piano/speakers4 ... For example ..... and so is my order as a Christmas gift je je je well my face is happy in days next....A hug stronger and my best wishes to all on this forum. best regards

how about having any Lyrics display without depending on the song book? If I understand it correctly this funtionality already exists in PA2X.

The lyrics are still tied to the Songbook, there is just a quick jump button on the front now, instead of going through the Songbook first.
Lyrics are STILL part of the Songbook Area and need to be linked to either a Midi File or a Style as part of a Songbook entry.

What font is used in the Pa1X? Looks like Arial or Verdana, but I'm not sure.
I would like to see the same layout in notepad when I type chords above the lyric lines.
