Just kiddin Daz... Both you and Sharp have done such a great job with KF.. Sincere thanks to you both!
LOL :-)

It's was typically honourable of Sharp to mention me 8)

Sharp really demonstrates what I call the "Spirit of the Internet". We all come to the Internet and expect to find communities/resources already in place for us to use. I know I do. None of these things would be available without people like Sharp that take the initiative and make them happen. Taking the initiative is just the first step, you then have to maintain a consistent effort to turn a piece of software running on a web server into a viable community. Sharp set a great example in that regard and inspired a lot of us to follow his lead in our own different ways and add our own contributions. What we see today is the results of a group effort, as I said in my interview, but someone had to plant the seed and nurture it. Fortunately for this corner of the Internet Sharp did that with a passion.

... is the last interview really more then two months ago?

Due to technical problems <raeusper> the "new" kind of interview on the blog is still not available. Which means sorry, you still have to read.

Todays guest @ blogasys is another person who is not completely unknown to OASYANs - here is part I of an interview with Eric J. Sawyer aka EJ2:

http://blog.petermmahr.com/2007/10/14/e ... j2-part-i/

I would like to thank Eric (and once more all the others) for the time he (and all the others) spent. It is no false modesty to make clear that my part is the easy one and thus thanks should go to the interviewee - EJ2!

Hope you enjoy reading.

Oh yes very much enjoyed reading that this morning. I've known Eric for a while (here in the virtual world) so it was really interesting to learn a little more behind the EJ2 name that so often accompanies thoughtful and enthusiastic posts here and at KLF. Eh ! ;-)

Thanks Peter and Eric.

Looking forward to Part II !

Yes, definitely nice to flesh out the characters...on the screen, that is.

Eric, nice to see there's another up here if the OF's club. Don't know if we've got any geezers yet except YT.

Hey, Peter,
Thanks again for the interview and thanks also for the kind words. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to contribute to your Blogasys, another important resource for our OASYS community.

Thanks, Daz.
You've been one of my influential boosters right from the beginning of my entry into the combi design arena with the Maroon Karma. I've come to appreciate your support and encouragement. Thanks again, mate. Don't forget, I'm still planning to be in New Jersey by the beginning of next week for some intensive "KARMA Professional Development"

Hi Arend.
Yes, I remember. Currently, we are still fine-tuning my upcoming collection for OASYS. My apologies to all who have been patiently waiting, but there have been more pressing priorities taking precedence. As for converting or developing combis for M3, that is definitely one of our targets. At the moment, I have converted/revoiced "000 Analogous" from my OASYS collection. It just needs a few more tweaks to improve it, but so far, it sounds great. In addition, after reading an M3 user's post asking for combis using EXB RADIAS, I've developed a preliminary combi that I call "New World Order". I really like the results of this one too. However, it's not quite ready yet.

Hey, BC.
Yes, it is nice to actually see who the various personalities are in our groups. Unfortunately, too many still remain incommunicado. Thanks to Peter and his Blogasys, and those who post links to pictures of themselves or their studios, I feel like I have a personal relationship with the "brave" ones.

Cheers, all,
Eric

I think that Eric's programming is easily overlooked and underated. He does excellent work (IMHO). I am intimately acquainted with most of his Karma work. I feel that he programed Karma to the max out it's magic. He is very thorough and probably always tempted to refining his programs....maybe tweak a little more......What if I re-did this?

I am not sure that maxing out the Oasys is even possible. I look forward to see what he is doing in the Oasys universe. Keep it up !

I have had the pleasure of meeting Eric on two occasions. He is a kool guy and not an"old fart", whose life I envy. He is retired and spends all of his time with his beautiful wife and a his harem of keyboards. If this is retirement.. I want in.

Always great stuff, Peter!

I really enjoyed reading the interview with Eric.I love his combis as I use them alot in my music.
His life story is a very interesting read and also a great inspiration.I also play by ear so I feel connected there.I can't read music to save my life.

Well done,Peter and Eric :)

Looking for to Part 2

Hi Synthia,
Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for your support and kind words.

The ability to play by ear and to improvise accordingly is a gift reserved for the fortunate in my opinion. I've come across more than a few highly trained pianists who couldn't just sit down and play something totally ad hoc, unrehearsed, unprepared. They were stuck to a score in front or in their mind.

I guess I have what might be called a hybrid (maybe lobrid) style of playing by ear coupled with a somewhat stunted ability to read music. A number of years ago, I felt frustrated with poor reading skills and my lazy keyboarding rudiments, so I decided to return to classical piano training. I went right back to the beginning of Royal Conservatory syllabus. In no time, I was past the Grade III level and progressing. However, something strange happened - my facility with improvisation and playing by ear seemed to be deteriorating. That was it! I quit. There was no way I would surrender what I had been acquiring over the years in order to advance classically.

So, I remain with my somewhat compromised technique; but there isn't a sheet of paper in front of me. I can sit down at any keyboard without any plan or purpose and just play whatever my fingers decide to play. And that's good enough for me. Yet, these old arthritic digits are starting to become uncooperative...LOL

Thanks again for your comments.
Cheers,
Eric
