If there is something you would like to see in the blog - here is the right place for suggestions.

I am quite busy at the moment, thus maybe my response will not be as fast as usual, but for sure I will respond!

An update or any word on the arrival of a Oasys Tutorial. If its coming, will it be in book form or DVD form?
And there was this one time at band camp......

Hi there,

just before I leave and fly to the US (California) I added another story, which has not as much to do with OASYS as usual:

http://blog.petermmahr.com/2007/07/13/c ... alla-heij/

... but there will follow more as soon as I have more time.

best regards

Now I know who "Ebse" is - hope we'll meet in the near future.

Regarding mastering/blog: Dan posted a nice link in this thread http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... highlight= to IMHO good mastering articles (= Distortion to The People and The Secret of the Mastering Engineer). There is really a big difference between mixing and mastering!

PS: and thanx for continuing your blog!!! :D

Oh, man, Peter, I loved all three versions of halla heij, but especially the STR-1 mix. Send my congrats to all. And thank you for continuing your blog.

Incidentally, what does halla heij mean.
Cheers,
Eric

Hi Eric,

thanks for the - as usual  - nice words!

"halla heij" doesn´t mean anything. If you understand German then you should have a read at musician`s life. If not I´ll try to give a short translation.

Andreas and I agreed to collaborate. He sent me the drums, I added the harmonics / chords and synthetic sounds (e-piano, pads, syn-strings, etc.). Instead of a synth bass I wanted to add some wood to the track and that is how Otto came to his part... during that time we thought some voices would be fine. After asking several people, Otto was the one who gave me Jaqueline's telephone number. After a phone call she came to my studio and listened to some tracks. I had already a Mic and pre.... but now that she said she wanted to sing immediately I realised that I had a much bigger problem.... no lyrics. I thought that she will listen and come another day when I can prepare everything - MISTAKE !!!

We decided that she should sing whatever she has in her mind and for the next session I promised to prepair some lyrics <which> fortunately after listening to this version I never had to fulfill the promise.

Hi Charlie,

I am very optimistic that we will meet together with Ebse some time in the future  ...

Mixing and mastering are two pairs of shoes. Good mastering can help you to repair things that have gone wrong during tracking or mixing. But it is really getting complicated when you are working with Mics and Pres, this needs a lot of experience and knowledge. With a synth / workstation / productions station like OASYS it is much easier, then mostly problems occur due to mistakes in the arrangement. To me basses and deep mids are the most critical frequency regions... it as lifetime learning

Hi Peter,
It's not uncommon in many cultures to sing/chant in ad lib syllables. Many native/aboriginals in North America do that all the time at Pow Wows where many different "nations" attend. The English, Scottish and Irish like to play around with syllables too. Check some of the singing in Shakespears plays. And don't forget the Beatles oobla dee, oobla da. Of course we can't leave out jazz scat (and that ain't no s**t...LOL).

Thanks again.
Cheers,
Eric

Hi Richard,

I am looking forward to the time after all this traveling... there is "something" that sounds good and I already would like to work on

Hi Eric,

"ethno" is the word that comes into my mind, and most of it I like. But "halla heij" is not that kind nor is it "Austrian ethno" with Lederhosen. The title then would be "hollodelijhe" .... hm .. I just realised that it is not that far away

In some way that vocal/lyric styling reminds of Paul Van Dyk's Nothing But You in style ... awesome track.

Are we gonna be able to buy this CD ?

Do you mean this one track, or the complete CD?

At the moment only two tracks are finished. Some more are in work. We, Ebse and I, hope to get it done until the end of this year. I guess he is at the moment a little bit sceptical about the finishing date :).

It will have a strong connection to OASYS, as meanwhile four instruments are involved. Some tracks will be available on other CDs as well. An interesting "network" is developing, in my opinion. Hope that more users post their tracks here and if they want of course on the blog, too.

Thanks to all of you for the feedback !
