I have been going thru the various Youtube videos etc..really good stuff. I was wondering has anyone seen a "Radias For Dummies" or something similar to teach you how to use the unit? There seems to be book or DVDs on everything but this.

I am old and I am slow.

Any help would be appreciated. I need it by the step 1,2,3, etc...

but he's a good man

so i don't think that you're so old and slow....50 is the good half to rest and invest on yourself- well done!!! :D

Thanks so much.

In the lack of "Radias for dummies" and other courses and guides, I recently discovered this new book about analog syntesizers:
ANALOG SYNTHESIZERS: Understanding, performing, buying. By Mark Jenkins.

It doesn't seem to be that many good explaining books about analog synthesis out there, and I think this is quite relevant to sound-designing on the Radias as well.
To me this is an enormous help in understanding how sound-construction work, and I'm so glad that someone finally took the effort to put this together in a book.

As far as I can see, this book covers the understanding of sound (design), the history of many analogue intruments, techniques, and a hole bunch of reference and history on the subject.
It would be nice to hear from others who have read the book, and what they think of it,- to me it has so far been an eye-opener. :D

I may have been one of the first ones to have bought it, but nevertheless, I recommend it to anyone interested in sound-creation.

Btw, it's released in the Uk (on net, atleast), and will be released in the Us in august.

I just checked (27 July 2007), and it's not yet available in the US. For pre-orders, it's $39.95 at Amazon, 336 pages, and written NOW. I recently bought, Power Tools for Synthesizer Programming: The Ultimate Reference for Sound Design, by Jim Aikin. It was only $16.95. It's a tad light at only 160 pages, but it's well-written and is definitely helping me to get started with my new Radias. But its copyright is 2004, so although most of the content is still relevant, it's a bit dated. The new Mark Jenkins book that futureline suggested looks like a terrific synthesis theory/overview book, plus, all of its content should be VERY relavant and up-to-date.

In answer to pjblues' original question, there seems to be no product-specific books or DVDs published for any other synths except for those available for each major manufacturers' flagship workstations (Motif, Triton, Fantom).

Nice to se that you are concidering the book.
It's funny though...we think in a very similar way, I got my Radias in june (after it as new was sent to the repair-shop), and also ordered the power tools for synthesizer programming at the same time as I ordered Analog Synthesizer.
I haven't recieved powertools yet, but I'm eagerly looking forward to it. :D :D

Wizoo have some great books on this topic, I found these two useful.

* Programming Synthesizers by Peter Gorges
* Analog Synthesis by Reinhard Schmitz

Sometimes tutorial documentation from other manufacturers is worth a look too :

Another couple of online gems to get you started:

Access-Music's programming analog synths tutorial:
http://www.access-music.de/downloads.php4?file=167

SoundOnSound's technique aritcles:
http://www.soundonsound.com/articles/Technique.php

I know the first one is a link to a tutorial on the Virus website, but the operating principals of any subtractive or VA synth are the same.
Once you understand the basics of subtractive synthesis, the radias is remarkably intuitive.
I would recommend going through these synthesis guides, then going through the presets and especially the templates on the radias in the editor so you can better understand by example.
