Mine has a little dancing flame in it, is it normal?

Vaccum tubes have heater filament(s), so when the backlight is off you should easily see a faint red glow at the top of the triode(s) if it's operational. This is what I mean by lit - nothing to do with the backlight

If this is used as a true stereo component, then both triode filaments must be lit (powered, or whatever term you may want to use). In mine, only one of the two are lit, if this is normal that would mean it is a mono effect applied to the stereo buss

shrike,
Just trying to get to the bottom of vadims question and since I'm an ELECTRONICS ENGINEER I believe I'm qualified to answer said question. It would help if you have constructive information - # of filaments lit?

cmrr, I don't dispute your knowledge.

I just made a joke. You know, joke is something not serious, funny, maybe sarcastic a little bit, like flame in a tube.

I find all this discussion about the freaking tube funny for a few reasons.

It is stereo. It doesn't corrupt stereo image. If you hear stereo, than obviously it is working.

This thread wasn't about how many spoilers can you install on it, can you place two-bi-turbo instead of bi-turbo in it (cause I strongly believe it isn't mono or stereo, but it is bi-turbo, and would like to install two-bi-turbo).

Don't take stuff so seriously. You say you are engineer, why didn't you resolve this matter the minute it came in discussion? You would save all of us some trouble.

Come on, nobody is joking around here any more.

About filaments lit - I don't see them lit at all. Maybe because I didn't observe them in absolute darkness, but all I can see is blue light, which is from led, not tube itself.

But mine tube works stereo. I use stereo fielding with various sound positions in many combis and can tell for sure is everything working the way it should.

Instead of trying to remove the tube and do the lobotomy on Extreme, try testing it as described above. If you are not happy and it's not working (for some reason known only to tube, because bi-turbo engines aren't too simple to understand), then remove it and place another one. And let us know what you achieved, will you?

Filament no light - tube no work, this is a basic fact of electronics 101 (in 1950)
1 filament lit - only half of the tube is being utilized (IE: MONO).
2 filaments lit - wallah! STEREO (IE: dual channel)

Maybe physics operate differently on the other side of the world but over here, this is the way of things

Of course the freakin output is stereo, perhaps you didn't read my statement which explains my theory:
If this is used as a true stereo component, then both triode filaments must be lit (powered, or whatever term you may want to use). In mine, only one of the two are lit, if this is normal that would mean it is a mono effect applied to the stereo buss
But whatever - I've said all to be said and did not reply sooner cause I haven't looked at this forum in months - and now I'm regretting it -

I don't give a crap about replacing the tube, having sex with the tube, eating the tube or raising it up to become the next antichrist. I just tried to answer a simple question and its' turned into some kind of freakish pissing match

Can we take our tubes out and throw them on each other? So we can have throwing-tube match.

OK, now I looked for those filaments - I don't see that. Everything is blue around my tube, so blue I don't see anything red or anything lit.
And the tube is working. In stereo. So I don't care is anything lit or isn't.

You are taking this too seriously. Chill out.

You know how us hot headed Americans are -serious is our business-

I heard Bush is planning on bombing Iran with an infinite number of 12ax7's - gonna be tough to replace them after that happens -

I believe my filament glows because I talk kindly to my tube on a daily basis. I wish I could touch it - if it wasnt for that damn bubble.....

Actually, correct me if I'm wrong (with credible evidence)..but I think that's a 12AU7 "Russian Bullet," not an AX7..

*****update*****

Straight from Korg's own site:

"Valve Force
Ultra boost circuit system + Vacuum tube: 12AU7"

www.korg.com/extreme, and click on specs>valve force

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12AU7

Big difference between those tubes, too..strange..

No big difference at all. It's basically the same tube, only lower gain

To be specific, it's the ecc82 which is the same as the 12au7 only the
european designation

Just used the ax7 as a general reference and should have specified au7 instead - sorry got caught up in the general discussion

For the most part I see them as the same tube, change a couple resistor / capacitor values and you could end up with basically the same result in the design end of things

In this application with the existing circuitry, an ax7 could be used as a replacement but the gain and output controls would have an increased effect on noise and distortion (less overhead) - it's a "hotter" tube

Sorry peeps! forgot about this topic... Yeah, the Triton EX valve is definately a stereo processor! i stand corrected (well... re educated at least) lol :? im experimenting more now with valve force... its still nothing special to me... really... i could live without it

muzikman, take your tube out if you don't need it and give it to me so I can throw it to cmrr, we still didn't engage in tube-battle, probably because we are reluctant to give away tubes.

Cmrr, where are you hiding, show yourself.

Ma smijesni mi ove njihove preokupacije s tom tubom pa se zajebavam.
