Hello,
Now that EXB-DI is discontinued and it seems impossible to get one, what are Korg plans to deliver a solution for Oasys owners who would like to connect 8 channels of adat to a DAW.
I remember that Korg advertisement included these feature (8 channels adat out) for the Oasys. Now that I have the DAW I can not buy the adat interface for it!. Please we need a solution.
regards
Rob

As I recall I believe the EXB-DI contained a part (I think from Alesis) that Korg can no longer buy, and therefore Korg Japan can't manufacture any more EXB-DI units.
There are some floating around; I think Korg France may still have a few.
I doubt Korg will design a replacement, so your best bet would be to create a permanent search on eBay; they turn up now and then.

This is not extactly helpful at this point, but I feel that a synth of that price should have DI included on the board. I can understand that ADAT may require a special chip, but it's already digital. Why not just throw in a firewire or a D-Sub connector to access what's already there?

Every "should have been included" adds cost to the product, and I assume Korg decided that most OASYS owners would not want to pay the additional money to have that automatically included.

Anything might be possible, but I have never seen a keyboard manufacturer create some new hardware addition that was not part of the original design (and therefore part of the original development cost budget).

Martin,
Yes, I see what you mean. The fact that that the Alesis part is now discontinued shows that Korg's decision was wise. Imagine stopping production of the OASYS based on this part alone
My only point however is that there has to be a way to exchange multiple streams (more than two tracks) of digital audio between two computers without breaking the budget.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Korg did a similar addition by adding digital out as a standard to the Triton line (Triton Studio I think...), so it's not totally impossible. Let's see if the EXB-FW firewire board works on the M3...

The Triton Studio and Triton Rack both supported the EXB-DI option (same option as with the OASYS). However, in all cases the option was part of the original product design.

Japanese electronic musical instrument manufacturers appear (to me) to be a fairly conservative bunch, especially when it comes to deviating from the classic "design --> Manufacture, repeat process with new product" methodology.

I am sure the EXB-FW will work just fine. Korg probably started working on that design 3 years ago as a long-term replacement for ADAT digital. However, the key question would be how easy or difficult this would be to retrofit into the OASYS. It has been my experience that manufacturers won't retrofit, but rather use new technology or the next product.
I think it would be great if Korg developed something like the EXB-FW for the OASYS (or the digital transmission of audio over Ethernet), but I doubt anything will happen for the OASYS.
