Difference between PRELOAD.KGE and MOD-7.KGE?

I finally did it ... upgraded to 1.3 incl. Mod7 and EXs3. The screen behaves as it should and hope the workarounds for the Bouce-all-tracks-Bug will work for me as well (looking forward to the patch for this

). Mod-7 is GREAT - really like the motion-synths of it!!
Q1: I noted that there is a new Mod7.KGE file in the factory folder. I looked into it and compared the GEs to the PRELOAD.KGE file. And they seemed identical. Did I overlook something? Or are they identical? If so, why are there Mod7.KGEs at all?
Q2: Did I get this right: These User-GEs dont affect the 2000-something normal GEs like the ARP-Models or all the Drum-Grooves? So as long as one uses the preset-GEs one can load or erase user-GEs without harming his Combis etc.?

Hi Charlie,
I think the 1.3 upgrade supplied a new PRELOAD.KGE including the additions in MOD7.KGE. Users of previous OS versions upgrading could just run the MOD7.KGE (rather, tell the OASYS to load it along with the MOD7.PCG) to get the new MOD7 sounds and associated Karma GE's. If for some reason you want to set everything back to default, (ie, like me you screw it up a lot

just load the PRELOAD.KGE to fix everything (including the new MOD7)
As for Q2, I think you're wrong. But then, I could be wrong

I was just reminded by the installation manual for 1.3.1 that user-GEs are one of the great news of Karma 2.1 and OS 1.3. So there were no user-GEs befor. So I still don't get it why there seem to be 2 identical GE-Sets in 2 differently named files.
Any one else having comments? Esp. on Q2?

Glad that you like the MOD-7! I do too.

The .KGE files are associated with the PCG files. The MOD7.PCG file contains only the MOD-7 sounds; when you load it, the system automatically looks for a KGE file with the same name (MOD7.KGE) and gives the option to load that alongside the PCG file.
Same with the PRELOAD.PCG file.
So, why do the KGE files contain the same data?
The PRELOAD file now includes the MOD-7 data as well. There is currently only one set of User GEs: the ones made for the MOD-7. So, the PRELOAD.KGE and MOD7.KGE files are currently identical - but most likely, they will not always be so.

Yes, the User GEs are separate. When you select GEs, there are now tabs to the left of the list: PRESET and USER A through USER L.
Best regards,

Thanx for the explanation, Dan!
Hey - I understood Q2 correctly - miracles still happen!!
I'm glad there is no interference between preset and user-GEs and for future user-GEs the 2 different but identical KGE-files make complete sense.
