Alright, maybe you were born with a talent of Michelangelo but not me.
Nope, unfortunately that's certainly not the case here either!
Not too surprisingly I don't deny that I did buy the top of the line artist set of paste tubes and brushes, but where is a descent canvas, a scratch knife and a magnifying glasses to work on? My brushes are hardening and the pastes are drying out.
Not trying to be an instigator, but are you seriously saying you can't get good music out of the Oasys because of the limitations of the sequencer and audio recorder? I find that surprising, given the array and quality of the O's capabilities. After all, Michaelangelo isn't considered a master because he used a certain brush or chisel or marble. Rather, it was what he was able to accomplish with those tools at his disposal that made him reknowned.

I remember when I started out making music with two tape decks bouncing tracks back and forth and I still managed to make some decent tunes even though they were awash in hiss. When I upgraded to a Tascam 8-track cassette recorder I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

And now, after 10+ years of writing and arranging in SONAR, I'm starting to steer away from the visual-oriented composition and all the bad habits I've derived therefrom. Personally, I'm finding the simplicity of the workstation method of sequencing refreshing -- perhaps because of those inherent limitations. Would I like to have a robust piano roll view? You betcha, even if just for comfort's sake. Are my tracks going to suck because of 192ppq clock resolution? No... if they suck, that'll be my fault!
Let me hear your masterpiece from the instrument that you are at peace with? Your works might give me an inspiration that I need and make me satisfied the way you are now.
I've had a few professional gigs in my "career", but I wouldn't classify anything I've done (on or off the O!) as a masterpiece per se -- not every track gets knocked out of the ballpark -- but even so, it's not the fault of the tools... and ultimately, perhaps my "satisfaction" stems simply from being a "glass half full" kind of guy![/quote]

ahfei wrote:Someone selling oasys(a music shop) from japan say that it is discontinued. You can find it from ebay, the music shop. Anothert website that selling it also put a discontinued sign on oasys 76.
Both the OASYS 76 and 88 are still listed in the active products at Korg Japan AND Korg USA:
http://www.korg.co.jp/Product/Synthesizer/OASYS/
http://www.korg.com/gear/prod_info.asp?A_PROD_NO=OASYS

With any retail store, you have to be very careful to understand the difference between a "store no longer carrying a product" versus the "manufacturer discontinuing a product".

Someday, like any other product, the OASYS will be discontinued. That day hasn't happened yet.

I don't think you are getting my point across. Do you naively believe that I'm complaining about the instrument just because I can't seem to get anything out of it? Well I dare say that my PRODUCTIVITY was several times better when I had a Macintosh Plus hooked up to Korg M1 back in the late 80's. I don't know if we are in a same wave length but I was able to write a whole Brandenburg concerto on it in few days. Try that on your Oasys. I'll use an analogy that my point may be more easily understood.

If I were to spend a few grand for the best escort service you can buy, I want that escort to show up in my hotel room dressed in a classy business suit with a hint of Channel perfume on her body. I like her to be in her absolute minimum legal age and slightly volupmtuous but not chubby. Her butt has to be sprung up like JLo. During the dinner, I like a dab of wasabi on sushi and a glass of wine after caviar. When the lights are out, I expect her to be Brazilian waxed so that nothing get caught between my teeth. Naturally her bowels need to be reasonably empty so to prevent unnessary air leak in the course of an action. Now that doesn't mean I need to be chained and whipped for the rest of women. A glass half full may be sufficient for you but I RATHER not see a mid-aged dollar ho on her last call duty for a new year apprearing in front of my door.

Lastly you are right in that it was those tools at his disposal that made Michelangelo reknowned. And what do we see today are high quality marbles and cavases that took abuse and held on for hundreds of years. Why is stradivarius sought-after? Perlman would have no trouble reciting Paganini with a used Yamaha from a local pawn shop and still be considered the best in the world. Then did you get your Oasys soley because of the anti-aliasing filter that sent shivers down your spine? I got mine because of the promised all-in-one workstation.

Ps. I should've mentioned that this karma thingy got way overrated. I'll give a 100% credit to those engineers who worked on the underlying technology over the hyped up arppeggio. Hence my complain is not to discredit the engineers who laid the foundation on the Oasys architecture, but the lack of practicality in terms of workstation point of view.

I think the Oasys is a superb instrument, but one really does have to learn how to use it, and this takes a long time. I have had mine for nearly two years and I am only just discovering how brilliant Karma is, the routing options, and the immense flexibility in the way sounds can be created. As someone once said 'the more I practice the better the musician I become' As evidence, listen to Sharp's outstanding CD and Mile Conway's productions. There is no quick and easy path to memorable, moving and involving music, but Oasys can take you there, if you work at it.

Wow, did this thread take a strange turn.

Not quite the analogy I would make... but okay.

At least now i know its not discontinued.

How come bowel and stripping was mentioned :?:

Off topic(trying to divert from stripping) , can you differenciate 192ppq and 480 ppq actually by listening?

And whats oasys weakness in audio recording?

Synergy...Are you the Real Synergy who is aka Larry Fast, who worked with Peter Gabriel in the late 70's and recorded for passport records?

Alright. Maybe I drank more than few can of Red bull that night. But you got my gist. I'm sure the improved sequencer may be on its way. It's been almost three christmas and what I need is skin that hold bones, flesh and blood.

I'm not the Larry you are referring to.

Alright then, you're right. I'm overreacting.

Please, tell us some more about your encounters with prostitutes.
