Sort of disappointed...

I just replaced my Triton Extreme 76 with a M373. I've had it 1 week, and I am conflicted as to whether I like it or not????
Through headphones, the sounds are really nice, especially the Piano, but through a sound system the piano's sound no different than the thin, almost MONO like of those on the TE??? What gives?
The quantity of sounds is severely lacking. There are really NO killer sounds in the Electric Piano/Wurly/Tine section. I love Karma, the pads, the KAOS pad, etc.
I am very conflicted about this board. I've tried to tweak the pianos, but they really sound crappy. I have a Yamaha Tyros 2 plugged into the same sound system and it blows the M3 away sonically; even the Pianos.
Please convince me to keep this highly potential board...

Do what Greg said because it will work.

I happen to like the piano sounds on the M3 (though i agree they do often sound as if they're missing something, especially in the low/mid range). Another thing I've noticed is I've found some of the pianos sound better in the combis and things rather than by themselves. I have to admit though that the M3 does sound incredibly different through different speakers. After bringing mine home after playing with my band, it almost sounds like a completely different synth through my speakers at home. I guess I use my M3 for different key sounds, mainly for organ, and the organs on the M3 are awesome, imo.
I can't say I'm too familiar with the electric piano type sounds on the M3 (they're not my favorite and I hardly ever use them in my music) but I guess my advice would be...try programming your own. It might sound like roundabout advice, but I've thought from day one of owning this thing that it's really a programmer's sort of synth—one reason why it comes with so much empty space in the banks. I think the best advice (that most people will give you, it seems) is to play with the EQ and try other speakers. The speakers make a huge difference for me.

Thats a good point. I was going to mention the importance of your audio- speakers and mixer.
I have the XS7, Rd700sx, Extreme76 and M3-M. I can easily do A-B-C-D type comparisons
Adam is 100% correct. Initially, the 3 acoustic piano is light on the low to mid end. Its delightfully crisp and clear on top. But a simple eq adjustment brings up the low to mids
FYI, I have Event ASP8's and a Mackie 1220 Onyx mixer. And a Cerwin vega 12" sub.
Of my 4 boards my Rd700sx has the ' hottest " signal. I use very little gain for it. The M3-M audio signal is the ' most flat '.
After making M3 eq adjustments and bumping up to 127, I use a touch more mixer gain to ' balance ' my M3 audio with my other boards
After all this, the M3 piano is really nice, IMO. It seems to be perfect with a few Susan Ciani pieces I play.
I agree...

I had the M3 since August and there's something not quite right about it...for me I mean. Of course sound is subjective, but I've owned nearly 30 different synths in my time and I just can't make my mind up about it. I had a Korg Triton Classic and a Trinity before that...as well as an X5D and X5DR. I must say, that I preferred the sound of the Trinity.
For me, the Piano is very weak, especially compared to my Alesis Fusion and the sounds have a kind of 'Brittle' sound to them. The Karma is really a bit 'Midi File'..ish. Obviously, there are functions that are great, like the pads...I guess it's not necessarily the sounds themselves, but the sound quality...it's good, but there is something missing...
The other gear I use is, Roland V-Synth, Fantom Xa, D-10, Yamaha An1x, Access Virus Ti, Nord Lead 2x and Alesis Fusion...all going through a Digital Mixer and Tannoy Ellipse 8 Monitors and Yamaha Ns10's.
I'll give it a bit more time, but for me...so far, it's not a keeper....Please note, this is not a moan, just MY opinion.

I guess my biggest complaint is with the Piano. No matter what I do ( AMP, EG, 127), I can't get the sound to be full and inviting. I have a Yamaha p-250 and a Tyros 2, and they are really much fatter and expressive sounding than the M3.
BUT I THINK I FOUND A FIX!!!!
If you create a new program with the 4-way Piano, then change your Velocity Curve to 5, then do the following:
1. Click Page Select
2. Click OSC/Pitch
3. Change the Multi Samples to suit your taste:
Original New Setting
High Acoustic Piano FF Acoustic Piano FF
MHi Acoustic Piano F Acoustic Piano F
MLo Acoustic Piano MF Acoustic Piano MP
Low Acoustic Piano MP Acoustic Piano F
My intent was to change the middle level sounds from thin to fat sounding so changing the sample from a Pianissimo to a Forte has a nice affect.
Try this and let me know what kind of results you guys get.

thats a nice find, I did make those changes on my User A bank
I am going back and forth , doing an A-B comparison, I think it sounds fulller. Its late over here and I can't quite make as much noise as I like. More tomorrow !
