Sequencer runs out of memory?

Post by Charlie »

Got a new problem :(

I've got about 4 5-minute songs and about 15 1-minute songs in my sequencer file. When using eg. "copy measure" I get a warning "You can't undo this operation - are you sure" - well, not any more. And once I try to copy whole songs, I get the warning "memory full" and can't copy at all.

I've tried switiching of all the EXs - didn't change anything - same warnings. Next I started to delete songs that I right now didn't need and saved the whole sequencer file with a new name. That helped - but not for very long. I tried switching of too. Didn't help. I continued to work like that, the screen responded slower and slower until it froze completely.

Any suggestions? [-o<

Strange. I have a file that loads up 70 or 80 songs, but they are mostly MIDI and one or two with audio.

Are these songs using a lot of audio files? Is your EXs3 Brass, Karo and other libraries loaded? You might want to clear one of these out, before using the regular sequencer.

The sng-file has just 2,1 MB = it's a "baby-file" for 2 GB Memory
I unloaded EXs3, EXs2 and EXs1 and I have nothing from Karo loaded. It's as naked as it can be. Of course there are some audio-tracks - but only in 3 Songs out of the 15. It's just about the same dimension as always - actually it's a bit less than usual. Honestly, I have no idea what to do now. :(

MAYBE, you could try to load those songs just with the original 1 go ram shipped with your oasys, just to make clear it's not the second 1go ram you put in. :?:

Do you have Multi-Rec turned ON? I know that our systems 'reserve' memory for this function and it holds back a fair amount of space...

That's one possibility.

YES - that must be it! I've been recording with Karma recording 4 Midi-Tracks at once. But I do not understand: once the recording is done, there is no more "multirecording". The operations I described above ("copy measure" eg.) have nothing to do with multirecording - they just copy simple midi-data - not much more than if the data to be copied would have been recorded without multirecording. :?
What can/shall I do now? :?:

I've encountered exactly the same problem that you describe. I always save edits on songs frequently when I start getting that message because I can't tell how soon the OASYS will freeze up.

Also turn off the "Aftertouch" you'd be surprised how much of that is generated..if you don't need it switch it off!!

Hi folks,

Sorry for the problems you're experiencing. We'll look into this.

One comment: loading EXs data should not affect the memory available to the sequencer.

I thought (and hoped) so, Dan. However, I believe your guess with "Multiple Recording" was a good one. I just don't know, what to do now to avoid this issue (beside erasing lots of not so needed song slots). :?

I'm very much looking forward to any tipps what to try/do next, as I plan to use Karma (and therefor multiple recording) more in the future together with the sequencer. Just bought an iMac + KO - can't help using it now!

OK, we're on the first step into this. I know the system reserves memory so you can Compare/Undo after Multi-Rec, but I don't recall hoe to reclaim the memory after this. Did you try turning Off Multi-Rec, saving the file and then reloading it?

Just a guess.

Ok - I'll try that once I'm back home - right now I enjoy holidays in the Austrian Alps! 8)
Thanx for the tipp! :D
