Adding a Karma strum to a chord progression already recorded

Post by jgsidak »

Track 1 of a new song contains the basic chord progression on an acoustic guitar. I would like to add a Karma strumming pattern to this preexisting track, but I can't figure out how to do it. Until now, I have only been able to add the Karma strum when recording the chord progression live.

After I successfully add the strum to the chord progression, I plan to copy the measures into another song. So the Karma will be "baked into" the copied track. Then I may choose to stack various strumming patterns on different tracks to get some really complex strumming pattern.

Any advice on easily adding Karma strumming after the track is already recorded? The answer would really speed up the process of arranging a song. Thanks.

Hi J.,

You can't readily do this on the Oasys.

Inside the Oasys things are routed like so :

Keyboard/MIDI IN ---> KARMA ---> Sequencer

That routing is "hardwired", so that means you can't send from the sequencer back into KARMA. The only way to subvert this arrangement is to connect a MIDI cable between MIDI IN and MIDI OUT and effectively send a sequencer MIDI track back into KARMA, and then have it's output recorded onto a separate track. This would require a lot of thought regarding the settings on the Oasys that would stop you from getting into a MIDI feedback situation, but in theory it's possible. How desperate are you to try this ? ;-)

Thanks. I always want an easy fix. Too much technology interferes with composing the music.

If I understand your question correctly I believe you would benefit greatly
from Stephen Kay's excellent tutorial on Manual advance and Direct Index.
Search at karma-lab.com/forum and you'll find it.
Additionally, beginning on P.99 of the Oasys Parameter guide, you can read
about this feature under the heading Clock advance.

If you know your (Oasys) tool thoroughly, all the answers to your
questions will be easy fixes.
