I've used my D888 for over a year but one problem keeps popping up.
A low frequency click/whoomp is heard in silent sections of recordings, sometimes more loudly than other times.

After some troubleshouting it turn out to be a combination of use of condensor mics with phantom power. When the harddisk starts writing (so only when recording, not when just mixing), the click is exactly synchronuous with the write HD led.

With the use of dynamic mics without Phantom power is it not the case, so I suspect a faulthy balanced and dampened phantom power circuitry.

Has anyone else have this problem? It is annoying for me because I record claasical music (lots of low volume moments with condensor mics and phantom power)

BTW, we checked more D888 in the shop and they all had the same problem (two machines)
Try it yourself. Condensor mic and phantompower, gain approximately 4/5 open and press record. You don't hear it easily but you can see the VU meters puls every second in sync with the HD led.

I am curious what happened next: how did Korg respond? I recently purchased a 2nd hand D888. Altough I had searched the internet, I wasn't aware of this 'feature' when I bought the machine. Once in action I found out at once. I also want to record classical music/ensembles. Being Dutch too I am very much interested in the answer of Korg in the Netherlands.

i have a few phatom power mics. i also have some hiss when using one of them. the other does not hiss. but here are a few things i do or have tried. lower your reverb a touch or two and bring up the volume on your mixes. the other is to run the mics on there own phatom power and not the phatom on the d888. i also use a tube pre amp sometimes 9whitch also acts as a phantom power) but alows you to set your mic up before it runs into your bord. but mostly i have found that problem comes from the mics.

Maybe it will help with working with condenser mic.

Mic preamps before condenser mics is probably enough. But there is no audible noise or pulses with the kind of music I do. Loud rock music. Probably more a problem with very dynamic music with silent parts.
