Good Compressors?

Hi all! This question doesn't have anything to do with the RADIAS, but I've become so accustomed to this forum that it feels like home, I love it!
I would just like to ask what is the best VST compressor out there? I know there is no "best," but there are just so many compressors out there I don't know what to get. I want something very analog and heavy sounding. I have recently stumbled upon Waves products and they look very high end. Can anyone tell me if the SSL 4000 plug in will give me what I desire?
I know a lot of you may not listen to this kind of music, but I am into trance. Aghh, please dont flame me! I just need a good compressor to thicken everything up and glue it together and turn that bass into a boom. I've also noticed the V Series and the API plug ins from Waves. I am very confused because I have no previous knowledge of good compressors I just need someone to point me in the right direction...
Please someone help! (By the way, I already tried demoing Waves and the authorizer glitched so I have no way of telling) Can I just have some opinions please?

Check this out :

... the Waves L1 (and subsequent L2 and L3) limiters are another part of the tool chain for a getting a big sound, so this free implementation should definitely float your boat !

Stick it across the whole mix and/or use it in individual channels.

That's a free one, their commercial stuff is good too :

Now, I would not say that, since Radias is perfect for trance/dance music styles!
I love trance, and bought it because of it. 8) though maybe I should have waited for the Virus...

Personally I quite like the fabfilter Pro-C - loads of options, various compression response types, can work as a mid+side and as well L+R, there a side chain option as well, and really excellent visuals that make it very easy to setup - you get a time graph of its response vs the signal, so you can see its exact behaviour.

Also the only one Ive come across that does a mid+side split which allows for some very subtle creative use.

BTW - their other effects are pretty good too.
