How do you save songs?

Post by chocojoe »

Is there a hard drive on the TE to save songs to?
If not, can you give me a little tutorial on how to transfer to PC?
Help please. :)

Having a Compact Flash card is the easiest way to save and retrieve data. I'm using a 1 gig flash card and don't have a problem with storage. I only use the computer for backups. If you go to Korg.com and do a search for the Extreme, you find find the documentation on what brand works with you TE.

chocojoe,

almost any CF up to 2 GB will work in TEX. It is the easiest way to manipulate with data. Users who have SanDisk CF cards, from Ultra, Ultra II, Extreme I - IV series are generally pleased with their speed and reliability so take this as a recommendation. There are several threads in this section about which CF to use so browse a little.

Regarding saving songs, it is pretty simple:
1. make something in sequencer,
2. go to MEDIA mode, choose CF for media, then tab Save,
3. select Save SNG, type in a file name and save
4. after you have xxxxxxxx.sng file on your CF, go to tab Utility,
5. Select USB storage mode option (previously your Extreme has to be connected to your PC with USB cable)
6. on your PC Extreme will be shown as external hard drive
7. copy your file to your PC.

That's it.

Keep in mind that Extreme doesn't support hot plug with CF. You can insert it and take it out only when Extreme is off. But when you insert it once, you really shouldn't have any need to take it out ever again.

Thanks!
So size isn't really an issue?

Up to 2GB. Anything bigger and you have to partition it into two or more drives. Like I said, I use a 1GB and haven't had problems yet!!

So, looks like the Sandisk Ultra II 1GB will be a good choice then?

Not really. You can even use 4 GB CF (some users swear they use 4 GB SanDisk cards with no problem whatsoever).

Yes.

Hi,
I can confirm that as i'm rite now using a 4GB card.I was previously using 1GB card and was afraid that the 4GB wouldnt work. But it works really well.

Its like a mini hard disk. Very useful for storing large collections of samples and songs.

Cool, I thought the limit was 2GB. I stand corrected and will be shopping soon with this news. Thanks guys - that's excellent news!!

Sorry to steer ya wrong choco...

Even though I've been happy with my 1GB, as you said, it would be nice to store more samples :D

Can't choco just save it onto a USB Flash drive and play it on computer?

IE - copy the SNG file onto a USB thumb drive and then put it on computer - I just recently got a TE so I'm a bit new at it haha.

Is the CF card basically compulsory? I only use a USB Thumbdrive atm

How do you play 'SNG' files anyway? lol

Yaggy,

You can use USB thumb drives, but one crucial thing about CF is that it doesn't stick out as thumb drive does, you insert CF and forget about it.

With 2 GB of storage room on it is not likely you'll need to take it out and replace it with another one because of lack of storage room.

You can't play .sng files on PC, it's Triton's format. You can save songs as SMF and play them on PC, though.
