hello everyone.

My problem is, and maybe i just dont get MIDI yet but what is the purpose of the MIDI inputs on the kontrol,do they hook into my computer? the package came with a usb cable but is a MIDI cable required. I have installed and read the manule a number of times, the pad lights up but there is no sounds. Ive installed the softwear that came with the package but it does not stay staionary on my desktop.

Can someone please take the time to offer step by step instructions. possibly a diagram of where what cable goes where. Im using windows VISTA but i have access to XP as well. Ide prefer VISTA more tho.

MIDI is an interface layer protocol. Basically, a standard by which devices can talk to each other.

MIDI data can be carried to and from MIDI controllers (such as the Pad to other devices over USB or via the old style MIDI (DIN 5/180˚) cable.

The MIDI cable connector is provided so that people can connect their controllers to older computers and dedicated hardware. For example, you can control a hardware synth with a Microkontrol or an old hardware sampler with the PadKontrol.

You choose which is the best for you to connect up. If you are just using the PadKontrol to control your computer, then you only need USB.

EDIT: Are you aware that the PadKontrol does not make its own sounds, and must control another software or hardware synth / sampler?

also, using the usb out connection disables the midi out. midi in goes to port 1 pad outputs can be routed to port 2 or port 3.

The pads simply light because you've touched them.
In your software you need to tell it where your info is coming from. Usually in "preferences" (I assume you have loaded the Korg midi/usb driver)then it knows that signals will be coming from the pads thru the usb cable into the program you're running. Also be sure your pads are sending on a corresonding midi channel ,10 for drums, (remember it's midi THRU usb) like "VOIP" voice over internet. Be sure the "note #" the pad is triggering is in a range that is used by your sofware instrument C1 or C2 is usually a Kick drum. Press "setting" "note #" and press a pad.It will show the note # in the display, same for midi ch.
