it's no surprise if KORG is discontinuing OASYS.
they are putting alot of efforts into 'Arranger' keyboards lately(better sounds color displays, etc, etc...)(Kurzweil [and the almighty ensoniq ] is probably the only company that didn't got corrupted by arranger keyboards)
I thought OASYS will be getting updated for along time and new sounds and stuff will coming out.
KORG didn't even get to assign a function for their "Function" Knob

Nope, not true! I have been in two large music stores in Manhattan recently and they both had the 88-key Oasys listed as "discontinued" and "last one!" marked at $6,799.00, respectively. I would say that's far from full price.Sina172 wrote:
Korg IS NOT discontinuing the OASYS LINE! The 76-Note is the ONLY keyboard that is no longer made. The Price drop in 2007 was because of low sales in the 76-Note Model, while the 88-Note was the top seller. The 76-Note is now discontinued as a result of sales. There is NO REASON for Korg to discontinue the 88 when the 88 is selling at FULL PRICE.

Looking on Korg.com there are still both Oasys listed. Looking at Thomann.de the 76 is immediatly available, 88 is listed as "available on demand". I guess this concludes the subject "Oasys discontinued in July".
BTW everything is discontinued sooner or later. The question is, if the product is still of use for you, once it's no longer produced anymore. For me the answer is: YES!

The possible discontinuation isn't really that what people should worry about. What makes me feel really sad is to see what's happening to the M3: a very nice upgrade to the seq and its editing capabilities with the new M3 XPanded software.
And when I read sentences like this...
All this "oh, we have the best workstation ever and we can be so happy, blabla" is ok but hey, I payed nearly €8000 and have expected the software to grow as advertised all over, not only some new instruments, even if they are perfectly well made (KARMA is a different kind of thing, I think Stephen has done a great job, absolutely nothing to complain here)! What about the users, like me, who don't really care about how many sounds they have but about how well integrated its different parts are, who care about how useful the sequencer is, how many non-standard effects exist (vocal harmonizer, convolution reverb,...), etc.? "Ups, too bad, nothing for them... but you could buy another one of our super synths..."
So many people who commented in this thread seem to believe, that we should all be so *unbelievable* thankfull for what we have, but I'm not more thankful for that than Korg is for my €8000. Period.
PS: Perhaps this all sounds a bit harsh, but it is EXACTLY what I feel about all that, sorry!

I'd like to ask to whom they listen and deliver?! I think, our OASYS wishlist is a little bit older than the M3 one and there are more than enough questions about the sequencer and its feature set, where is this kind of delivery for us (piano roll, track view, sysex editing), or at least, some kind of announcement?DAW – Derived Sequencer Editing
The M3 XPanded uses the TouchView display to its fullest! Three new screens have been added to the sequencer page, allowing you to view and manipulate data on-screen as graphic elements. Many users have learned this editing style from computer-based DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software programs, and prefer the graphic convenience. Once again, Korg listens and delivers!

Reading these posts I think there is perhaps an argument to be made for Korg not listening and not having a clear vision. I don't refer to their amazing products including the flagship Oasys which I also own. I guess looking at this from out of the box I would figure that being that the Oasys being the flagship it is should have the capacity to "inherit" the new features that the M50 and other lower end keyboards that have been brought out by korg. After all I would guess that the objective would be to make a family of instruments that would have degrees of features and or enhancements of a product line. Being that the Oasys is primarily software based on a very flexible OS platform there should be no excuse for that. If Korg plans to discontinue the Oasys hardware personally I would think that this would be an awful decision for the mere fact that most if not all the folks that purchased this class of instrument went with the concept that Korg proudly promoted which was a platform that would have the software capability to grow for many many years to come. If that is not the case I think many people would loose faith with Korg on this commitment. Basically the next time Korg offers us a new expandable platform like the Oasys I would not invest again. Being the amazing instrument that the Oasys is I think that it would be foolish for Korg to loose the focus on expanding its capabilities. Even if the hardware were only available upon request or not at all, a commitment from Korg that we will have significant development on this instrument would reassure all of us. Many of us have done what is something not so easy which is to invest in an Oasys but I think there is enough of a significant community of us out there that will be taken seriously in either recommending the next Korg invention or not but it will hinge on how Korg treats our investment. It´s not just selling us on the next big thing but working on developing something as amazing as the Oasys. Please don´t loose the vision Korg. We´re keeping our fingers crossed Korg but your silence for nearly a year is deafening.

I agree. Their workstation OS is similar across the whole family of instruments. The fact that they have added new things to other boards actually gives me hope on the OASYS end.franzlp wrote:I would figure that being that the Oasys being the flagship it is should have the capacity to "inherit" the new features that the M50 and other lower end keyboards that have been brought out by korg.
When Korg says that they are no longer developing the OASYS OS, then I'll worry.

Perhaps it is, but I can relate to what you say, mate.pandel wrote:What makes me feel really sad is to see what's happening to the M3: a very nice upgrade to the seq and its editing capabilities with the new M3 XPanded software.

Now the M3 has features the OASYS doesnt, some of the more important ones that the OASYS community have been requested for years to improve its workflow.
...After all It seems that the M3 is more "Open Achictecture" than the OASYS was to modify things in its OS, and in a less timeline; isnt it?
And its 6000 $ cheaper!!!

Well here's a thought if Korg ever considers or thinks of letting us down and not show the same commitment we have shown to the Oasys then they should simple open the instrument up for 3 party development. If they don't want to use the tools to expand upon the instrument I do think there may be others that would. Just a thought.
