Hi!
I have owned my OASYS for just three days and found only one thing that irritates me - the CPU cooling fan hissing and the hard disk clicking noise.
Sure - it is not loud (more like my silent lap-top) but when playing the superb OASYS grand paino through my Genelec 8030 I really enjoy the sound scape - so full, so rich from low bass to high sparkling overtunes. At these moments I do not whant to have that "lap-top"-sound disturbing.
So - I wonder - Has anyone tried to silence the OASYS hardware. It should be possible to apply PC harware heat pipes to get rid of the CPU/Chip fan? Epsecially as I understand that there is a "standard" PC CPU-board inside.
And now when there is 32GB SDD drives available for PC, it should be possible to replace the hard disk in OASYS with one of these? This would also speed up the OASYS boot-time as the SDD has a higher read rate.
Any thought about this anyone?
Heat pipe and SDD disk to silent OASYS fan and disk noise?

Hi Kohasis.
Installing a SDD would be a sweet addition for sure. I always worry about my hammering the keys when I'm recording Audio Tracks. You know... hard disks spinning and all that.
As for replacing the fans ? I actually have a spare 120mm handy that I'm very tempted to install. It's an ultra quite model that glows blue. Not that you would see much light off it considering the location of installation.
If I had the nerve to open the main plate and expose the Mobo, I really would consider pimping that with lights and an ultra quite fan also.
That said, I don't have any issue with the level of noise from the OASYS right now, so any effort to make a change to the fans would only be to pimp my right with blue lights
Regards.

I tried an ultra quiet fan, and the OASYS mobo did something funny with it. While attached to my PC the fan was really quiet, but on the OASYS after half an hour after bootup it boosted the voltage to the fan, like it was detecting that all was not like it should. The yellow rpm lead was detached, and the temp was not rising noticeably. I did not have the nerve to test any further and put the original fan back. I'm sure that it can be done though. I managed to reduce the original fans noise by removing it's screws and fixing it with foam tape thus insulating it's mechanical vibration from the chassis.
I'm also intriqued by the SDD, but a 60Gb one costs too much to try when success is not certain.
