Hi folks,
I was watching an awesome video on Youtube with this guy sampling his Kaossilator on the fly into his KaossPad3:

It seems he manages to perfectly capture the loops of the Kaossilator, without the need for editing them once in the KP3.
Is there a special 'loop recognition' function of some sorts in the KP3?

I was really blown away by this video, and am planning to get both units in order to work this way.

The KP3 has beat matched sampling. That means it automatically captures the samples based on the beats, so that you don't have to manually edit the loop after sampling. It also automatically starts looping the sample after it's captured, with no break in the music.

In that youtub vid, the Kaossilator is used to generate all the sounds, while the KP3 is used to layer the samples and do effects.

Does this mean that the KP3 analyses the loop first ('listening' to it from the audio in), and thereby detects when the loop starts, or do you hit record immediately after the last beat so that the unit automatically starts recording at the first beat it hears?

I must say this is totally awesome. Coupled with the effects in the KP3, this combo has fantastic potential.

Yes, the KP3 analyzes the sample as it records it, automatically clipping the sample based on the beat, and then starts playing it back as a loop. It doesn't know whether the source is a loop or not, it records 8 beats worth of whatever is sent, then it creates its own loop from it, then starts playing the loop. It can automatically detect the BPM of the source.

if you're planning to use the kaossilator + kp3 combo you should be aware of the fact that they cannnot stay in sync for a very long time even if you set the exact same bpm on both of them. you will experience phasing between the two that only gets worse the longer you let them play together. ofcourse you can manually align them from time to time, just like a dj aligns his beats using the jogwheel, only you have to twist the bpm knob on either of them for a short time and when they are back in sync twist it back to the original bpm.
