Vadim wrote:really stupid thing in Fantom-G: is the ability to connect a mouse.(probably the stupidest thing in the whole workstation history)

it is completely the opposite of what musicians/producers etc.. need.
I disagree here, whilst the Oasys does have the advantage of the Touchscreen,so a mouse isn't essential, but when you have so much detail on a screen like the G or Oasys the additional ability to use a pointer to pinpoint a particular parameter is useful. How many times have you touched the Oasys screen and the parameter hasn't quite registered and you end up having to press it a couple of times??I use a stylus for my Oasys, this is better for accuracy,so having a Pointer/Mouse on screen would greatly enhance and speed up the workflow, infact I think it would persuade me to want to use the sequencer if this was implemented with a few more better options in the seq mode

Plus the drag and drop methods of moving tracks data around in sequencers like the G make far easier, faster and intuitive ways of building up tracks rather than having to do a few manual button presses.

I don't think its the opposite of what Producers/Musicians want, because the Mouse option is not a permanent fixture to its interface so you don't have to use it if you so wish,I doubt an additional mouse option on the Oasys screen would really make a difference to how people wanted to work,it is after all a small part of the Interface, and besides how many people utilise a computer for their music nowadays??far more I'd say than those who run hardware workstation based setups.

I would say its no different or restrictive to using a Touchscreen,it can be far more intuitive and faster for editing using a software type environment in my experience with the MV8800/VGA/Mouse,I'd love the Oasys to have similar options.

I'd go as far as saying it was the type of crossover point needed in the fantom G that many more people have been waiting for and would want to work with a Hardware workstation in the same flexible approach as a software sequencer

Well, I think it depends of everyone.

Personally, I can´t think of any method more intuitive to perform drag and drop operations than a touchscreen. The interaction is more inmediate and easier to acess, even you can use a stylus if it helps you when touching smaller elements.

Within a screen the size of the OASYS it would be really superb to have this functionality.

Throwing a mouse mat and mouse up on my OASYS to use it.... naaa it just seems so 80's to me.
Touchscreen are so productive and easy to use. What would be cool is a Multisouch screen. I could see myself zooming in and out of tracks in SEQ mode on one of those very easily.

Maybe we should push Korg and Apple to work on a new megworkstation !!!!!!!!

I have to admit if i were in Mr Rudess' position I think I would be using both.Let's face it the Fantom is capable of a few things our beloved OASYS cant do..its called progress im afraid.

If he's had a lot of time in the development of the product it would be silly of him not to want to use it. Bit like making a cake then not eating it.....MMMMmmmmmm....Cake.

I´m not 100% sure, but something similar to that can be done with the SEQ tracks in the M3 with the 2.0 sequencer upgrade, at least in the piano roll window.

Maybe an M3 owner or someone in the know could confirm this.

Yes it would, but in its current one touch operation,it would mean some kind of Touchscreen plus button press to do such an operation of drag and drop, even with a computer you normally have to select the required part and then ctrl?or alt to select the part whilst dragging around.

I'd like to see something implemented like Sharp suggested of a multitouch screen, whereby you could highlight a part of function keep the finger on the screen and select another parameter or zooming in and out etc,or moving parts around in the same way you would move the Mouse on a scroll bar and move the pointer whilst keeping the button held down.

I would happily use a touchscreen over a Mouse on screen, but at the moment the Oasys doesn't work in those sorts of ways, that would make it any more faster or intuitive over a Mouse I'm not saying its the only way to go,its just everyone has different needs,I think the touchscreen is superb, but it would have been nice to have some form of Laptop style micro Mouse/Pointer built into the Oasys,it could even double up as a Kaoss Pad type device or they could have made the Ribbon strip multifunctional to act as a kind of Pointer mover for the screen??

Amen to that :D

Considering how many people have returned their Fantom G's in exchange for other workstations, I wonder how long Mr. Rudess will be happy with his.

Could you expand on that? Is there an actual issue with the Fantom G and are more than usual numbers returning it? I have to say it seems attractive and the 'supernatural' expansions look very exciting; so I, like many, am keeping any eye in it. But I'd be interested if there is genuinely a problem or a true consensus that it's not so good after all backed up by unusual numbers getting rid of theirs.

Thanks,
Kevin

I read a post recently (I think it was on this forum) where someone stated that he received information from a music retailer regarding a high rate of returns with the Fantom G.

Also--on at least 2 other forums, I've read some negative info as well, including statements like, "I wasn't happy with the Fantom G so I returned it and bought a _________."

Some of the reasons:

The OS is buggy.
You can't install Roland's SRX expansion boards in the Fantom G.
The sounds are not much better than the old Fantom X.

I have played the board myself and liked what I heard, although I feel Roland has priced the "G" too high, considering the M3 is now $1899 and the Motif XS has also been reduced (at least for the holidays) as well.

:(

What produces roland now these days?
All synth's(fantom, juno) come from one engine, for years now(srx),except sh-201,and the v-synth.Roland produces names instead of new sounds.

Yamaha must be flogging AWM2 10+ years now.

Not to build up any hopes, but at the end of the day this is an internet forum for chatting and speculating on all sorts of ideas.

So... does anyone not find it very interesting that KORG would hire Jordan for NAMM. As if they had something important to tell / show people :-)

Mmmmm.. me thinks something is going down guys :soundsgood
