I am sure you're all dying to know what happened next right ? 
I replaced the HT fuse, let the amp warm up as prescribed in the manual and flicked the standby switch. It just blew the fuse again, only after making some very unpleasant noises. Clearly something very wrong with it, more than just the GZ34 I would guess. In the next day or so I will have to go cart this 70lb behemoth back to the store. Not without some major regrets because this is (in theory) one of the great amp designs and a perfect compliment to my Ric. On the other hand, I really don't want to go through the protracted support experience that I know keeping it and having the issue(s) addressed would undoubtedly involve
