Changing Pad Chords with Karma ?

Post by SoulBe »

Hi, this is one for the karma experts!?:

For performing some Tower of Power songs I need to have more than 8 pads for storing the brass section chords. Of course I could sample the chords, but then it loses expression/velocity etc. Chord function is also not enough for a brass section.

So I was thinking of a solution using karma:
Is it posible to change the chords stored to the pads with using Karma or is there no relation? I was thinking of this, because some of the GE´s create chords when playing karma if I hear it correctly :D
Has someone tried out this before or do I have to go into "deep programming"?
Or is there maybe a easier solution?

Thanks Soulbe

Nope, there are only 8.
It's either play the actual chords by hand, or sampling.

Hhmm,

but if I use the Karma on off function and the "by on/by off" for the timbres to effect different midi channels, I can switch beetween the timbres ´so I could use with Karma 4 different Channels/timbres with the 4 Karma modules in combination mode (each module could create a chord, that I could put on a pad). My problem seems actually how to create chords with Karma? Do I need the software therefore?

I don't know to be honest. My knowledge of KARMA is not at the same level as my other systems, and while I do have the software, I haven't been successful in getting it working right. It crashed quite often on me so I've kind of abandoned it for the moment.

I need to reformat the laptop I had it on and give it one more try. Clearly it's not the fault of the software as countless people are using it, but it just refuses to run on my VIAO right. I'm hoping a fresh install of Windows will do the trick.

Soulbe,

I don't know if you are familiar with the karma labs forum web site, but you might try posting there in the Oasys section also. Stephan Kay does pop in & out occassionally there. As the man who made it, he should be able to throw more light on it.

That's not to say that there isn't someone here who can help.

Hello Soulbe,

You did not specify how many brass chords you need but if you can work with 16 pads/chords or less and don't mind using the Karma Oasys software and a laptop or pc to run it, Please see my thread over at the Karma-Lab forums. http://www.karma-lab.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13508

The thread was specifically about how to control the 16 pads available in the KO software from an external controller but it might give you some options or ideas!

As Kenackr suggested, posting there would be a Great idea as Stephen Kay and the entire gang are most helpfull.

Also, not sure if this is an option but the Korg M3-M's (modules) have really came down in price and this would also give you another 8 pads/chords with a similar brass sound or even with slight differences. The module does not take up much space and is self contained and can be controlled by your oasys or any external controller. I have one and it is just a killer to use them both together... :D

Wishing you the best of luck. :)

Regards,
Rick
