Killed my Kaossilator

A few weeks back, I was carrying my Kaossilator in my pocket (and without a case; stupid move on my part) when I ran into a corner. I hit the screen on the Kaossilator, and dented it in pretty well. The unit still works, but when the Kaossilator is turned on, it constantly makes sound from that one spot. I've already contacted Korg, asking if I could RMA it, but since it wasn't a manufacturing thing, they won't fix or replace it. So, I'm down to my only option: replacing the screen. I've had my Kaossilator apart, and the touchpad is easy enough to replace. I just don't know where to get one. So, if anyone could tell me where I could get a touchpad, it'd be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
George Badabinski.

hey man, i think that could be done pretty easy.
what size is the screen exactly?
it has 4 connectors right?

here's one.
but you have to worry about getting a connector for it because you can't solder onto the plastic wiring.

That's a touch screen. What's on the Kaossilator is a touch-pad. There's no video output behind the touch stuff.

EDIT: The screen is 3+1/16 by 2+1/2 inches.

Ah, sorry. I misunderstood. I saw that it was designed for a DS, and I thought it was the whole bottom screen. It's a tic small though.

nah it's cool the site is a little confusing

the psp has a touch pad (on the same site for $35) but it's too big (which would mean you'd lose out on parts of the screen you couldn't get to)... either way getting the exact screen size will be difficult. bummer.

another thing to worry about is the specs, and trying to get the resistance level proper...

Do you think it'd be possible to get the part from Korg's supplier? When I pulled my Kaossilator apart, it looked like Korg had used off the shelf parts.

i've been looking for ages, not for fixing any KP, but do you have any idea where I might find an X-Y pad like that from a UK store... i'm trying to build a controller

it couldn't hurt to try.
a lot of those companies only accept HUGE orders.
but then, a lot of them give out FREE samples...
so it would be worth checking out...

yeah i highly doubt korg is in the business of actually manufacturing touch screens. anyway that could help you at least to figure out what specs you need if nothing else

Am I just SOL then? I mean, I'm sure I'm not the only person to do this.

Wait for a broken or cheap Kaossilator or Mini KP to come up on ebay or craigslist with a good touchpad. Mini KPs are cheaper, and the hardware is nearly identical.

Sorry to hear about your gear damage. Just returned from a gig, where the percussion player tripped over one of the KP3's audio cables and pulled it down from my keyboard. The KP3 hit the ground hard, but it seems to be fine. I was lucky.

Looks like I might get to RMA my Kaossilator after all. Contacted Korg today, and was told I was being sent the number and address. Happy day :D
