Can this be fixed?
I plugged my KP2 into a European outlet with only an adapter, without knowing anything about the need for a voltage converter and all that. (I KNOW, I know.) It worked for a few seconds, then the lights all got brighter until it POPPED, went dead and smoke rose out from inside.
is it possible to fix this? or am I better off just getting a new one

Well heres an update. I got another adapter with an output of 12v but only 500mA, when the KP3 needs 700, and if i leave this plugged in for five minutes, then turn on, I get a flicker. Obviously the flicker is because of the lack of power. I didn't hear any popping sounds at all, no flame, (I reacted/panicked very fast and pulled the plug almost immediately) so it could possibly be ok. If it is there is absolutely no doubt that I am very lucky.

maybe you could explain a little better.
but honestly man, the KP3 is a complicated piece of gear. do you have schematics for it? how do you expect us to help you fix it? if yours is broken i do suggest you call korg customer service. if it burns and pops when you plug it in, i doubt they can do much for you.

voltage may be the same but if amps are lower than value needed it puts stress on all the components and will blow
I understand the being low on funds part. It aint gonna cost much to try and make it work vs buying a new one. But most likely its toast. cant hurt to try though. I'd open it up and look for bulging, burnt out capacitors and what not and take it in to an electronics store that sells replacement parts and get their advice. I had a car stereo amp that got fried once and was able to solder on some new components and fix it. The KP3 is obviously much more involved than a car amp but if its messed up already you might as well throw a few bucks at it and try and fix it before you toss it out right? Getting a new power supply prolly wont fix it but you'll need one anyway. I assume that once you see smoke, something is burned up and needs to be replaced. Electronics supplies stores an sometimes tell by markings on the burnt out parts what you will need to replace em with. Try it out! Good luck and let us know what happens
