Please Help Me With Insert Effects!

There is just so much to the M3, I get lost easily. Ok I get to the IFX page just fine, and I select the effect I want, in this case, Stereo Phaser, but when I turn it on and off, nothing sounds any different. So I know i'm either missing something, or doing something wrong. What would be really helpful is if someone could start me from scratch, with whatever sound you want, and add an EXTREMELY noticeable effect, so I can do it later by myself:)

you have to route the sound to IFX in the routing page, i.e. L/R channel are sent to IFXs, then select IFX, turn it on and choose a preset for start, select dry/wet preentage and should be ok.
